Litter Crew Worker I (Solid Waste) – Marion County BoCC

Location: Marion County Solid Waste Baseline Landfill – 5601 SE 66th St, Ocala, FL 34480
Work Schedule: 4-10-hour days; Friday – Monday; 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Salary: $9.00 per hour + full benefits
*Required: Must be able to clear pre-employment background and drug test
MAJOR FUNCTION
This position performs semi-skilled work in manual collection and removal of litter from county roadways and right-of-ways. Work is performed under the supervision of the Solid Waste Supervisor or designee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the work load.
- Collects litter from county maintained right of ways in support of litter maintenance and in support of county mowing and litter operations.
- Responsible for working as a team member of the crew and to do your share of the work. Work steadily and efficiently and insure all litter is collected.
- Responsible for wearing personal protective equipment and be aware of your surroundings and the traffic near where you are working.
- Insure that required procedures for management of traffic during operations are adhered.
- Responsible for using supplies and equipment in a responsible manner.
- Responsible for carrying out assignments with minimal supervision
- Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule.
- Practice a safety first policy in the work environment. Adheres to established safety and health policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for customers, other employees and self.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
This position provides a minimal contact with the public. It is necessary to interact with other litter crews and certain solid waste employees in the course of the work day.
SUPERVISION
This position does not supervise any other position.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Licenses
Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License required.

Machines and Equipment
This employee will be required to operate the following equipment: a variety of small hand tools, two-way radio, phone, lawn mowers, blowers and weed eaters in the completion of the tasks of the position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to fifty pounds; will regularly be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and will frequently be required to talk or hear. Special vision requirements are close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to walk for extended periods of time over rough, steep or uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; and will frequently be exposed to moving traffic and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level for this environment will be loud. Requires of collection of litter along roadways and right-of-ways for extended periods and in all types of weather.
