What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Specialist position at Marion School District?
The Communications Specialist will support the district’s work to communicate and promote the mission, values, and activities of the Marion School District. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and be experienced in the effective and efficient use of a broad range of communication platforms, including video filming and editing, broadcast productions, audio systems, graphic design, web design, and writing. Candidates should have strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, proficiency in computers and software applications, and general knowledge of school activities, including athletics. The Communications Specialist will report to the Director of Communications. Pay is commensurate with experience and education.
Job Responsibilities
- Set up and manage livestream broadcasts of school activities via the district’s livestream service (Marion Patriot Activities Network/MPAN))
- Shoot and edit videos promoting school events
- Shoot and edit commercials promoting MPAN sponsors
- Public address work at athletic events and other school functions
- Music coordination at school activities
- Ensure quality audio at school activities
- Provide live commentary during MPAN broadcasts
- Design graphics for MPAN projects and other district communication projects
- Support the management of the district’s social media platforms, including the evaluation of social media strategies
- Prepare news releases promoting the students, staff, and activities of the Marion School District
- Provide support in the creation of district presentations and publications
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience in video/audio communications
- Experience in utilizing social media for brand awareness and impressions
- Computer proficiency and familiarity with a broad range of computer software, including the Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Communications Team and district administration to respond to ongoing challenges
- Ability to cultivate strong relationships with school district staff and members of the community
- Excellent multitasking skills and ability to handle multiple requests from different individuals and departments
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Positive attitude and growth mindset
Requirements
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
- Physical requirements: Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Must have the ability to move around and stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Must have ability to climb steps to elevated platform
- Must have valid driver’s license
- College degree in related field preferred but not required
