About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced and proven leader in the food industry to join our executive team. Candidate must have a creative approach to food, menus and presentation. The Catering Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of our catering team of 8-10 people in sales, production and menu planning. In addition, they are responsible for growing our business and overseeing a successful catering operation. The Catering Manager works with the Executive Chef on recipe and menu development focused on great food, simply presented.

Candidate must have experience in working professionally with food. The candidate must have a deep, proven knowledge of food, food trends and hospitality. Candidate must enjoy challenges, be a calm problem solver, be focused and accurate, have a strong work ethic, and can lead by example. The candidate must also be able to work both independently and collaboratively with our executive team.

Who We Are:

Market Hall Foods is a family of businesses based in Oakland, California. We specialize in artisan-made, specialty food using the best ingredients. We have had a catering department since 1987. The catering department has the opportunity to showcase the various strengths of our markets. This includes Market Hall Produce, Market Hall Bakery, our cheese counter, Hapuku Fish Shop and Cactus Taqueria. Our clients cover the range from corporate and small businesses, educational and health institutions, as well as individual and repeat customers with social and family occasions to celebrate.

As caterers, we provide food delivery, set-up and presentation (at homes, offices, event venues, etc). We also provide stylized food platters for pick up inside our markets.

Duties & Responsibilities:

· Identifies and pursues new catering opportunities.

· Oversees and coordinates all aspects of catering programs, ensuring seamless execution and exceptional customer experiences.

· Manages our internal systems to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

· Collaborates with the executive team to develop quarterly budgets and meet sales goals.

· Ability to style enticing and appetizing platters of food.

· Demonstrates proficiency in using web-based ordering systems and administrative tools, ensuring smooth operations and accurate record-keeping.

· Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

· 6 years of experience in the hospitality industry: front of house, catering, sales.

· Experience working in professional kitchen would be a plus.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with focus on customer service.

· Track record of proactive and creative problem-solving.

· Up-to-date on latest food and catering trends, including industry developments.

· Track record of team leadership.

· Familiarity with CaterEase, Homesome, Excel, Microsoft Office, Slack, and Asana a plus.

· Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

· Bi-lingual Spanish a plus, but not required.

Working Conditions:

· Ability to work in an office, a kitchen, or off-site.

· Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 40 pounds.

· Ability to stand for extended periods.

· Ability to work in both cold and hot environments.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
