Manages all aspects of Marriott's sourcing and contracting needs for design and construction agreements. Collaborates with internal stakeholders, including the Global Design business, Estimating, Finance and Accounting, Risk Management and Legal. Functions as the subject matter expert for contracting. Assists the Global Design business with RFPs as needed. Negotiates contracts directly with vendors, drafts contract language, resolves conflicts and disputes, amends agreements, drafts change orders, and terminates or renegotiates contracts, as necessary.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Contract Management
- Draft, negotiate, evaluate, and execute a high volume of master agreements, construction and consultant contracts, contract amendments and transaction documents (e.g., SOW).
- Develops and leads complex negotiation strategies in compliance with Marriott best practices.
- Drives negotiating strategy to achieve cost savings and/or cost avoidance, as practical.
- Interprets contracts, identifies risks, consults with internal subject matter experts on contract terms (e.g., Global Design business, Legal, Risk Management, Finance and Accounting) and drafts language to incorporate feedback into contracts.
- Advises leadership on the company's and the vendor's obligations within the overall agreement and reports on the status of these obligations.
- Manages issues related to contracts and assists in interpreting contracts as needed.
- Facilitates timely resolution of contractual issues to minimize risk, including the impact of service disruptions on the organization.
- Creates and communicates clear direction and strategy for contract negotiations.
- Maintains contract log to keep track of all pending contracts and change orders and where each is in the process.
- Obtains internal approvals as required, before sending out contract documents for execution.
- Partners with accounting to gather information to record materially accurate monthly accruals to Marriott's general ledger.
- Obtains and maintains current Certificates of Insurance (COI) for all vendors performing work as required per contract terms.
Bid Process Management
- May assist in defining and documenting business requirements, scoring and selecting vendors.
- Partners with the business to manage relationships and communication with internal stakeholders and vendors to ensure transparent and fair competitive bid process.
- Partner with the business to ensure a clearly defined scope of work is included in RFPs and contract documents.
Managing Compliance with Contractual Terms and Conditions
- Partners with the business to manage any re-pricing, ensuring that the optimal total cost has been achieved for Marriott.
- Verifies that scope changes or extensions are commercially optimized using contractual mechanisms.
- Verifies vendor proposals and requests against contractual terms and conditions (including pricing, proposed charging mechanisms, chargeability of items) as well as proposing, if necessary, the most appropriate solution for the business unit.
- Facilitates commercial optimization of the contract by making use of contractual levers to limit or reduce cost and manage risk.
- Functions as an escalation point for any billing issues/disputes.
- Facilitates contract audits (e.g., billing, insurance certificates).
Managing Projects and Policies
- Interprets and advises on contract provisions and Marriott policies.
- Provides a structured process, rules of engagement and end-to-end support for contractual issue/dispute resolution.
- Resolves escalated issues in accordance with the governance escalation procedures.
- Manages the end-to-end lifecycle process from development through to execution, including obtaining the relevant stakeholder approvals, initiating and preparing of change requests, assessing and prioritizing impact, negotiating price and terms and conditions with the vendor, and gaining final approval.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- 6 years' contract management experience
- Ability to analyze and draft commercial and legal terms to ensure Marriott achieves the optimal value and risk protections on transactions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong Microsoft Word skills
- Proficiency in DocuSign and/or Adobe Sign
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Exceptional customer service skills (conflict resolution, problem solving, active listening)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational skills
Preferred
- Legal/Paralegal credentials preferred or Contract Management Certification
- MBA or related graduate degree
- International contract negotiations, specifically dealing in Canada and the Caribbean and Latin region
- Experience in working with construction contractors and design consultants

- This position is remote-eligible but will have a preference for candidates that are local to Marriott's new Headquarters in Bethesda, MD to work a flexible hybrid schedule.

Colorado Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $185,551.00 annually.
New York City & Westchester County, NY Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $113,393.00 to $204,107.00 annually.
Washington Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $204,107.00 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus. Employees will accrue 0.4616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
