What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning and Development Specialist position at Marsh?

The Learning and Development (L&D) Specialist position is a member of the Torrent Technologies learning and development organization. This individual’s primary focus is on training Torrent team members and external stakeholders, including agents, on flood risk and insurance operations and policy administration processes. The role also conducts training on general insurance and business practices, including customer service and communication. This individual will develop and update associated training content.

Delivering engaging and informative training sessions, Torrent is seeking candidates for the following position based in our Kalispell, MT office.

Learning and Development Specialist

As this role provides training for individuals throughout the United States, the individual in the role will need to be a self-starter who can operate without close supervision. They must be a team player and collaborate effectively with other L&D team members and management. They must be comfortable working within a virtual and office team environment. This role requires consistent demonstration of excellent communication skills with the ability to create and deliver content across multiple mediums (i.e., PowerPoint, Word, email, webinars). The role also requires a high degree of organization, significant attention to detail and a strong customer service orientation.

We will count on you to:

  • Deliver engaging and informative training sessions based on the standardized curriculum defined by management and stakeholders. Ensure that all training sessions are conducted in a professional and effective manner.

  • Effectively utilize the training materials that have been created for each class. Ensure that the materials are used to enhance the learning experience and provide comprehensive training to the trainees.

  • Develops and oversees implementation of flood insurance and general business learning activities and support programs for a business function which emphasize function-specific objectives and promote key competencies

  • Coaches and mentor’s trainees to ensure program understanding

  • Provide regular reports to management, highlighting the achievements and areas for improvement of each trainee. Updates and/or designs learning, and development sessions and content based on the needs of and feedback from the organization; partners with subject matter experts where required

  • Develops training content and maintains core curriculums within each function/trainee rotation group

  • When required, conduct webinars to provide training to external agents. Ensure that the webinars are interactive, engaging, and tailored to meet the specific needs of the audience.

  • Identifies training and development needs through role reviews and regular consultation with managers and SME’s

  • Acts as a technical point of contact for questions regarding learning platforms, flood insurance best practices, training programs, and L&D developments within the function

  • Maintains awareness of industry trends and happenings

  • Performs other duties as assigned

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent underwriting experience

  • 3 years of progressive Learning and Development experience or flood insurance operations, underwriting or claims experience

  • Working understanding of the insurance industry

  • Experience presenting to or training groups in person and virtually

  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team player

  • Project management, organization and decision-making skills

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) with a customer service orientation

  • Competent PC skills; Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, SharePoint

  • Practical content development experience with PowerPoint or using authoring tools, such as Adobe Captivate
