Description

Marshall Farms is looking to add a Program Manager (Ferrets) to our Butler site facility. 

The program Manager has overall responsibility of the Transgenic program as an agent of Marshall BioResources, being the main point of contact for the customer while overseeing safety, environment, quality, and production output of all transgenic activities. They are responsible for implementing standards to drive best practices and continuous improvement. 

As a leader and manager, it is an expectation that they serve as a role model in exhibiting the behaviors and fostering development of integrity, excellence, teamwork, and accountability.


Duties and responsibilities:

  •  Conducts periodic assessments of the site to proactively evaluate problems, identify repairs, replacements, and/or safety concerns. Coordinates with appropriate departments to initiate resolution. 
  • Leads the identification of alterations/improvements to facilities to improve the animal/employee experience. 
  • Monitors Production statistics and adjusts as needed to ensure company and customer objectives are met. Work, Coverage and Communication Coordinated Between Site Functional Areas and/or Broader Organization 
  • Ensures workload is allocated to effectively accomplish tasks in the absence of functional leads. Coordinates with other parts of the Production organization to obtain temporary staffing when necessary. 
  • Coordinates with Purchasing and/or customer to ensure that the site has materials and supplies required for effective/efficient operations. 
  • Ensures communication between appropriate parties is happening in real time (e.g. updates on projects). Builds strong relationships across the organization and ensures customer concerns are addressed. Organizational Structure & Performance of People are Appropriate for Business Needs 
  • Acts as a champion for change. Develops, plans, and follows through on change initiatives. Helps others to successfully manage organizational change. Facilitates the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace. Accepts the ambiguity that comes with change activities. 
  • Holds first-line supervisors/ coordinators accountable for work – quality of selection decisions, frequency and quality of performance feedback, and skill at producing results through a team. 
  • Ensures self and staff understand the organization’s vision, values, goals and strategies and their relationship to their daily work.
  • General Information
  •  Manages employee performance by clearly defining job responsibilities and standards of performance; providing clear, thorough, timely feedback; and addressing performance problems and issues promptly. 
  • Delegates authority and accountability to staff for appropriate responsibilities and decisions that are consistent with the scope of their capabilities (where applicable), regulatory compliance, and policies of the organization. 
  • Ensures self and staff keep up to date on technical knowledge and developments that impact roles. Uses this information to drive improvements and/or prepare for changing requirements. 
  • Ensures an effective learning environment by coaching employees, orchestrating learning opportunities, and providing relevant, high-impact feedback. 
  • Interviews effectively, selects the right people, and ensures effective on-site orientation and training for new employees. Fosters an environment where every employee feels they are a valued, appreciated and an important member of the Marshall Team. Processes Consistently Meet Standards for Safety, Quality, Cost, Service & Delivery 
  • Ensures the development, documentation, and implementation of standardized processes for key business functions, identifies changes that would enhance the process, ensures that all change control documentation is implemented, and that all stakeholders are appropriately trained on the process. Develops quantitative techniques to monitor process performance. 
  • Identifies and implements ways to create operating efficiencies, eliminate redundancies, and improve business results. 
  • Upon receipt of a quality deviation/complaint, conducts and facilitates investigations to determine root cause. Works with the appropriate discipline to identify corrective/preventative measures necessary to prevent recurrence. 
  • Assists in ensuring that site activities do not create a negative impact on the work or natural environment. 
  • Communicate and coordinate with multiple areas working on behalf of the customer to ensure that customer requirements are met, including order selection and transportation. 
  • Update databases and reports to ensure an accurate representation of the animal colonies. 
  • Plan and participate in customer visits and conferences as needed. 
  • Track sales figures and customer complaints as needed; and report to senior management


 

Work Conditions & Special Requirements: Duties of this position are primarily performed Monday –Friday approximately 7:00AM to 3:30PM. Hours may periodically fluctuate; production area coverage is 24/7 with possible extended hours and weekend work. Conditions are climate dependent, with frequent animal contact. Work area requires PPE.

This position is a grade M3 with a range of $58,500-$79,958.36 annually (exempt).


Requirements

Education/ Experience: Minimum of 10 years’ experience ideally gained through increasingly responsible management positions, ideally in veterinary medicine or animal production.


Competency Requirements: Individual maintains a mastery skill level in all areas/functions that relate to Animal Behavior and Production, including formulating policy, developing, and implementing new strategies and procedures. Individual will maintain thorough product knowledge, full understanding of Animal Production, Marshall customer satisfaction philosophies, and procedures of the company. Individual is familiar with technical tasks and the organization and distribution of associated work activities. Individual is highly capable of motivating staff and deal effectively with performance issues. Individual will proficiently interact with cross-functional teams and possess good organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills. Individual keeps abreast with changes to the State & Local regulations as they relate to Animal Production.

Mental Requirement: Minimum mental requirements necessary to perform key tasks of job to include but not limited to effective interpersonal communication, maintain attention to detail, comprehension (oral & written), understanding interrelationships between processes/activities, ability to forecast and anticipate consequences to actions, ability to coordinate activities logically, problem solving, maintain confidentiality, work with constant interruptions, stress, etc.
