Martha Jones Elementary school seeks a part time (0.5 FTE) Math specialist The ideal candidate will be DESE licensed, flexible, and have experience working with elementary aged children.

Nature and Scope:
The Math specialist works with classroom teachers and the school’s instructional leadership team to assess students' math understanding and skills, analyze assessment data, develop and implement classroom-based interventions, and develop and implement small group intervention programming.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of research-based strategies for mathematics instruction
- Provides math assessments and ongoing data analysis to inform instructional decisions and student intervention plans.
- Helps teachers interpret math assessment data of students.
- Assists administrators and teachers in designing appropriate intervention programs for struggling students.
- Provides direct math intervention and instruction for students who are below grade level benchmarks.
- Tracks student progress and provides data to teachers and the leadership team.
- Assists department head and leadership team in making decisions about entrance and exit of students.
- Coaching teachers on how to differentiate instruction for their students.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Massachusetts Elementary K-6
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Familiarity with math assessment tools and intervention curriculum resources preferred.

- Knowledge of the Westwood learning expectations and the mathematical content and practice standards in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
- Knowledge of relevant School Committee Policies, district and building goals, needs of the students in the class, and relevant state and federal laws.
- Ability to execute the performance standards set forth in the WPS teaching rubric.

JOB ENVIRONMENT
Work takes place in classrooms and other building rooms/areas, including offices, and hallways, within a school building setting, primarily indoors. Job takes place in a high-performing school district with high expectations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires sufficient vision to read printed documents and to view detail on a computer screen for extended periods.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching, as well as carrying and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and in the classroom.
- Ability to hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet.
- Travel among buildings may be required.
