Position Summary
The Safety Lead is responsible for the daily safety and health tasks required to support plant operations compliance.
Requirements
- Participate in new hire orientation for all plant and hourly employees
- Participate in and review periodic JSA, SLAM and/or STORM. Ensure these processes are being completed by employees and contractors.
- Conduct site specific training with visitors, vendors and contractors.
- Review training documentation of employees and contractor employees to ensure MSHA training and applicable task training requirements are completed.
- Conduct daily site audits to ensure identification of potential hazards
- Follow-up work place exams to ensure completion.
- Assist DSR in investigation as necessary.
- Assist DSR with MSHA P46 Training as necessary (New Miner, Newly Hired Experience and Annual Refresher). This is limited to conducting training not management of program.
- Conduct Site Specific Training. Co-manage program with DSR.
- Collaborate with Safety Mentors regularly to aid in norming newly-hired employees to culture.
- Organize and lead group safety meetings.
- Participate in tailgate meetings where feasible.
- Conduct training on completion of pre-job safety (JSA, SLAM, STORM)
- Conduct pre-job safety (JSA, SLAM, STORM) on non-routine jobs/tasks (especially where contractors are involved).
- Review and maintain contractor listing.
- Coordinate all vendor activity for PPE, first aid kits, fire extinguishers. Aid site management with management of safety supplies/vending machine. Request/suggest new or different PPE and supplies as necessary.
- Engage in pre-job inspection with all non-routine contractors.
- Spot check equipment pre-shift inspections with employees.
- Conduct daily observations of work habits, processes and procedures.
- Travel between sites within area of responsibilities, as applicable.
- Review/observe for unique hazards (water, pits, etc..).
- Conduct observations/audits of different shifts of operations.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Associates degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of safety-related experience
- Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) and/or Safety Health and Environmental Professional (SHEP) certifications preferred
- Strong knowledge of MSHA 30 CFR Part 46/48 and OSHA 1910 General Industry
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong presentation skills for formal meetings
- Must be highly organized and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong follow-up skills and attention to detail are essential
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Salary : $56,900 - $72,000
