What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant-Family Medicine position at Martindale Family Medicine Clinic?
The Medical Assistant under the direction of a physician, helps in the delivery of quality health care to patients. This position performs a wide variety of patient care activities including, but not limited to, phone triage, assisting patients with concerns or questions in regard to their health care, maintenance of clinical record and documentation, completing patient forms, administering medications/injections, blood draws, and taking vital signs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Taking incoming calls from patients, collecting all medical data to record into their electronic record to help the physician's ability to draw conclusions regarding the patients needs/concerns.
- Completing patient forms in relation to FMLA, Disability, Insurance, and Prior Authorizations.
- Interacting with other medical providers, home health, and consultants.
- Measures, collects and record patients vital signs (i.e, pulse, blood pressure, temperature, height and weight), and prepare patients for examintions and/or testing.
- Performs routine patient testing, acquires and processes electrocardiograms, blood specimens and urine samples.
- Prepares and administers routine injections and immunizations as directed by the physician.
- Removes sutures/staples and change out sterile and non-sterile dressings as requested.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
- Ability to accurately document patient information under organizational policies, regulations and procedures. Familiarity with HIPPA regulations.
- High attention to detail.
- Knowledge of the 5 rights: right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, and right time.
- Ability to make observations of the general physical condition of the patient and notifies the health care provider of abnormalities.
- Knowledge of medications, diagnoses, and medical terminology.
- Ability to give injections and draw blood.
- Familiarity with medical charts and records.
- Able to make patients feel at ease, appears friendly, reassuring and approachable.

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
