Responsibilities:
The Nursing Assistant I will work Full TIme, Nights and performs patient treatments assigned by the RN and other health care team members. They assist with direct and indirect patient care within their scope of practice, supporting patients, nursing and medical care teams. The care delivered is in collaboration and under the supervision/delegation of the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Nursing Assistant (NA) shares accountability for the quality of patient outcomes. In select departments, the NA role may also include some clerical support functions (such as phone answering, filing, computer data entry, etc.).

Performs Activity of Daily Living (ADL) care including, but not limited to:
- Essential Daily Care:
-
Oral care, bathing, showering, shaving, hair washing and maintenance, incontinence care and toileting/elimination needs.
- Changing bed linen.
- Maintaining a decluttered patient care area.
-
Understanding available products for patient care and when to utilize.
-
Safety and Preventative Care:
-
Infection prevention.
- Skin and pressure injury prevention.
-
Fall prevention.
-
Patient safety: setting and responding appropriately to patient safety alarms.
-
Environmental safety: understanding and performing regulatory compliance.
-
Patient Mobility:
-
Patient turning and offloading.
-
Ambulation, mobility in room, range of motion.
-
Understanding patient mobility assist devices and appropriate use for patient safety.
-
Use of patient lift equipment as per Safe Patient Handling (SPH) policy.
-
Nutrition:
-
Assist with meal tray delivery, collection, and documentation of amount consumed.
-
Set up and assist patients with meals, including feeding.
Performs patient data collection, including but not limited to:
-
Use of data collection equipment: Vital signs, EKG, bladder scan, transfer devices, telemetry, Massimo.
-
Documentation in EMR:
-
Components of vital signs, height and weight, intake and output measurement (including drains, urinary catheter and suction devices.)
-
Essential care performed.
-
Intentional rounding.
-
Provides direct patient monitoring, including but not limited to:
-
Safety Attendant (SA) at bedside for prevention of unintentional or intentional (suicide precautions) self-harm.
-
Video surveillance.
-
Performs patient care interventions as delegated and within scope of practice and validated competency, including but not limited to:
-
Phlebotomy, EKG’s, specimen collection, blood glucose measurement and telemetry.

Others patient care needs, including but not limited to:
-
Prepare patient rooms for admissions, discharges. Update whiteboards. Provide unit / room stocking of supplies.

Care of a patient with invasive lines and devices within NA scope of practice.
-
Transporting patients on/off unit.
-
Responding to emergency situation.
-
Communication with patient care team to ensure delivery of quality care.
-
Unit-specific / patient population specific interventions as delegated (example: psychiatry patients, pediatric patients, etc.)
Communicates effectively with nursing and healthcare team, including but not limited to:
-
Understands and reports out of range patient data values to covering RN.
-
Recognize and report patient changes to covering RN.
-
Performs shifts reports with oncoming staff.
-
Demonstrates initiative and understanding of job duties through communication with healthcare team and own self initiative.
Customer Service, this includes but not limited to:
-
Relating and respecting each patient individually.
-
Meeting needs of each patient to ensure excellent patient care is delivered. This includes a patient’s cognitive, physical and emotional needs, as well as their personal preference, cultural and religious beliefs.
Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed:
Performs other duties as requested by healthcare and leadership team, within the scope of practice.
Qualifications:
Education:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
Licensure/Certificates:
-
BLS within 6 months of hire date.
Skills:
- Reading, writing, typing (at least 20 words per minute), and basic math skills required.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
-
Ability to function as an active team member.
-
Demonstrates competency in required skills relevant to area of practice.
Physical Requirements:

Walking, standing, bending, and kneeling throughout the shift.

Ability to lift and position patient is required.
-
Lifting, moving heavy equipment.
-
Category I risk exposure as defined by OSHA.

Must be able to identify and differentiate colors.
