Position Summary
The Nurse Technician-(Washington State Only) delivers quality patient care within the scope of current education through interpersonal contact and provides care and services to assure patient safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each patient in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.
Reports to supervising Registered Nurse (RN)
Working Conditions
- Functions only under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) who agrees to act as supervisor and who is immediately available to the nurse technician
- Involved with patients, associates, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances
- Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily as necessary
- Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to AIDS, the hepatitis B virus, and COVID-19
Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program approved and has not graduated (satisfactory completion of at least one academic term); OR
- Be a graduate of a nursing program approved who graduated 1) within the last 30 days; OR 2) within the past 60 days and has received determination from the secretary.
- Possess CPR certification upon hire or obtain during orientation.
Specific Job Requirements
- Will not be asked to be in a supervisory role or delegate tasks to employees
- Be knowledgeable of nursing practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing technician functions in the post-acute care facility
- Have the ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department
- Perform proficiently in all applicable competency areas
- Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
Essential Functions
- Be able to only perform nursing functions that have been educationally verified by the nursing program and competency validated by the facility. Skills validations will accompany this job description as progression of skills are added.
- May be able to gather information about patients and administer care to patients but may not assume ongoing responsibility for assessments, planning, implementation, or evaluation of the care of patients
- Able to accurately document and chart patient care
- Able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours
- Has the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
