Starting Annual of Pay:  $69,367.00

Position Goal:            

This position is responsible for managing the District’s social media communications, preparing news releases and other media or District-related correspondence and coordinating District events working with the director to support the development of regular communications through which all stakeholders are kept apprised of District and school goals, accomplishments, and initiatives.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, media, journalism preferred or at least three (3) years successful experience in a related field in a school district or educational institution preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of managing complex websites and social media
  • Experience in word-processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
  • Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
  • Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date

 

Essential Job Functions: 

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of communications and demonstrate successful experience and competencies to:

  • Assist in the development of District-wide communications strategies
  • Carry out assigned communication plans for projects, programs, and activities
  • Write and edit staff, parent, and community articles
  • Post regularly and monitor social media on the District’s multiple official social media accounts
  • Establish and maintains positive relationships with influencers on social media
  • Assist in providing media support at District and school events
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and coordination of District community meetings and events
  • Ensure compliance and privacy laws when involving students in media coverage
  • Assist in responding to information requests from parents, the community, and the media
  • Provide training and support to staff using District-supplied communications tools as well as training for staff around social media
  • Management and support of the District’s content management systems including technical oversight
  • Provide technical support, training, and trouble-shooting in the use of the communications platforms (social media, website, and other communications tools) with users
  • Design, write, and edit brochures, newsletters and other district publications
  • Coordinate the distribution of district publications
  • Manage the district’s volunteer program
  • Respond to general information requests about the District and its educational programs and services
  • Coordinate the production of video or audio programs and other communication resources for use by the District
  • Maintain a current file of activity photographs and samples of student performance in the District
  • Provide assistance to the director, the Superintendent, school board members, or others as directed in preparing speeches or other materials for public presentations
  • Assist in the organization and presentation for staff workshops in effective communications with the community, media, and other groups
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with representatives of the media
  • Prepare informational materials for district levy and bond elections
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours
  • Professionally interact with students, staff, and public
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated success in oral and written communication such as public speaking, writing newsletters, brochures, promotional marketing or other forms of business, organizational and community communication
  • Demonstrated ability in desktop publishing, layout, publication design and graphics
