What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Sitter position at Maryville Academy?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patient Sitter provides constant observation to patients in need of supervision to ensure the patients safety and to prevent the patient from inadvertently harming themselves. This is a temporary position and only needed for the time period that specific patients are under the care of the Maryville Childrens Healthcare Center.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sit with and monitor the minor patient to assue patient safety and prevent self-harming behaviors;
- Distract and entertain patient while staff perform basic personal care;
- Immediately notify staff of any event which may require nursing or medical intervention;
- Providing patients with emotional support;
- Detecting changes in the condition of clients and report to nurse;
- Maintaining records of care provided for clients under nursing direction;
- Maintaining confidentiality of client information;
- Adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and standards;
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or GED;
- 1 year of experience caring for child(ren), preferred;
- Must be minimum of 21 years of age;
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
Skills/Knowledge:
- BLS and/or First Aid Certification
Physical Demands:
- Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods;
- Required to lift/move objects weighing a minimum of 20 pounds;
- Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform essential functions defined.
HIPAA Privacy Training and Sanctions:
All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plans policies and procedures that impact on their job duties. Site specific training on requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the plans health information policies and procedures under the direction of the plan Privacy Officer may be required for this position based upon site specific requirements. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
