Responsibilities
- Collaborates and reports directly to the registered nurse on duty for daily assignments and report any changes in client’s behavior and/or vital signs to the RNs on duty.
- Performs follow-up nursing assessment for residents and obtain laboratory specimens.
- Arranges appropriate appointments with Health Care Providers as well as required additional health screenings and supplemental tests.
- Administers medications, as well as supervises self-administered medications, where appropriate and allowed by regulation.
- Maintains adequate inventory of medical/office supplies in compliance with governing regulations and agency policy.
- Ensures proper storage of supplies as required by regulation.
- Provides education for clients regarding health, nutrition, safety, and medication compliance under the supervision of the RNs on duty.
- Performs all other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing is required. Current LPN license in good standing in New Jersey is required. Current First Aid/CPR Certification issued by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association required.
- Must be recent graduate of approved nursing school, up to one (1) year experience is preferred.
- If recovering, must have at least two (2) years of continuous sobriety and maintain sobriety throughout employment.
- Must have knowledge of health care issues pertaining to substance use disorders, including but not limited to mental health needs, women’s health issues, HIV/AIDs, and other communicable diseases.
- Knowledge of correct record keeping in accordance with regulatory agencies and standards of practice.
- Knowledge of proper nutritional requirements and practices for adults.
- Knowledge of safe standards of nursing practice.
- Ability to work with clients to gain confidence and cooperation while maintaining therapeutic boundaries.
- Knowledge of therapeutic communication techniques for the population we serve.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work while maintaining appropriate, accurate records, and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, healthcare providers, outside agencies, institutions and the general public.
