We’re looking for a full-time, staff Structural Project Engineer, to join our Mason & Hanger team located in one of the following office locations: Glen Allen, VA or Lexington, KY, Virginia Beach, VA, Huntsville, AL, Chantilly, VA, or Philadephia, PA | Hybrid Remote.

We’re looking for a full-time, staff Structural Project Engineer, to join our Mason & Hanger team located in one of the following office locations: Glen Allen, VA or Lexington, KY, Virginia Beach, VA, Huntsville, AL, Chantilly, VA, or Philadephia, PA | Hybrid Remote.
As the Structural Project Engineer, here’s the work you’ll do:
- Perform and direct research, analysis, design, and evaluation of structural components and systems (foundations, slabs, beams, columns, walls, etc.) to meet project requirements, applying knowledge of structural engineering principles.
- Perform complex engineering calculations; select and design site and building structural systems.
- Direct preparation of construction drawings and specifications for projects in coordination with calculations performed. Manage structural department scope for project. Checks work delegated to other engineers and designers on project to ensure scope is documented successfully.
- Main point of contact to clients for structural department project responsibilities (meetings, conference calls, comment review/responses, etc.).
- Lead construction phase contract administration activities for structural department on projects such as Submittals, RFIs, construction support, etc.
- Has mastered the primary production tools, methods and calculations used throughout the department.
- Properly understands the diverse design process and has strong project experience from inception to substantial completion. Expected to be actively increasing understanding and command of all site and building structural systems regularly encountered throughout the department.
- Responsible as client facing representative of structural department and begins to participate in business development activities. Ability to create and present ideas to clients in form of drawings, sketches, and other exhibits. Ability to coordinate and communicate with architects and engineers both internally and externally.
- Works with other engineers, disciplines and project managers to ensure project scope is satisfied. Actively supports project manager and department leadership with design scope modifications for assigned projects. Actively manages departmental project cost throughout the design. Ensures design constructability and coordination with other disciplines necessary for a successful construction project. Ensures all structural CA responsibilities for project are handled successfully.
- Will regularly function as the Responsible Engineer of Record accountable for the technical sufficiency of some or all structural department project deliverables – limits of responsibility to be determined in concert with more senior department leadership.
- Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 8 or more years of experience
- Professional or Structural Engineering License
- Great attitude and team player
- Successful completion of drug and background screening process
- US Citizen
- Ability to obtain security clearance
