About This Position
We are seeking enthusiastic Field Teachers (FT’s) to join the team at Mass Audubon Central Sanctuaries. Teaching opportunities are available at both Broad Meadow Brook in Worcester and Wachusett Meadow in Princeton, MA. FT’s conduct programs for a variety of ages from preschool to adults. Candidates should be comfortable leading and teaching groups in an outdoors setting in all manner of weather, including rain, wind and snow. This is a seasonal part-time position and successful applicants will create their own schedule from available programs. Programs are typically conducted during the school day, occasional afternoon and weekend opportunities may exist.

Responsibilities

  • Teach educational programs to youth (prek-12), adults and families, with an emphasis on school-aged programs
  • Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for program participants in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Support a curriculum that reflects the needs of program participants and the mission of Mass Audubon, including using outdoor settings whenever possible
  • Opportunity to develop curriculum on an as needed basis
  • Be comfortable and prepared to lead programs in any weather, including sun, rain, snow, heat and cold
  • Attend occasional (biweekly or monthly) staff meetings
  • Ensure that program participants follow Mass Audubon COVID guidelines onsite, including masks and physical distancing

Must Haves

  • Diverse background in nature or natural history
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and independently
  • Dedicated to promoting and respecting diversity of ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds and physical and mental abilities
  • Commitment to helping others develop an understanding of and concern for the environment and people’s relationship to it
  • Able to move over uneven surfaces
  • Able to lift 30 pounds

Nice to Haves

  • Background or experience with life or physical sciences, formal or informal

Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s base salary range is $15.00-$17.00/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
