The Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) collects a wide range of data to help improve teaching and learning in Massachusetts schools. This data targets the resources and assistance needed most by school districts. The Education Data Services office at the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) is responsible for the collection, quality, analysis and reporting of the data submitted to DESE by public school districts, educational collaboratives and private schools in the Commonwealth.

Education Data Services is seeking an Education Data Analyst to perform the following duties:

Analyze PK-12 data and indicators to inform Department of Elementary & Secondary Education policy;

Produce data and reports for the legislature, Governor's office, media, school districts and the general public;

Manage data files;

Prepare and submit required EDEN data to the U.S. Department of Education;

Respond to requests for information and data, both internal and external;

Perform other related duties as required

Based on assignment, travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess:

Familiarity with education statistics and education issues and policies;

Experience preparing reports to present to external and internal stakeholders;

Knowledge of Microsoft office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

Experience with SPSS or other analytical software;

Ability to communication effectively with data and analysis reporting, data

collection and accountability teams;

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team;

Ability to work in a highly organized, multi-tasking and detail-oriented environment;

Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders;

Demonstrated ability to research issues and work under tight deadlines;

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree and at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in a specific, relevant, or related content area, educational program or service.

Substitutions: A Master's degree or higher in a specific or related educational content area may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

30 semester hours equals one year of experience for substitution purposes. Education toward a degree in a specific or related educational content area will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
