Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is a part-time position with no benefits.

The part-time Support specialist for Basic Needs provides outreach and referrals to on-campus and off-campus resources for students who need support with food insecurity. This position does not provide confidential clinical or psychotherapy services to students.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Meet with students experiencing food insecurity to assess their needs and provide on and off-campus resources;
  • Meet with students who present to the Student Development department with varying degrees of problems and concerns and triage through case management and referral;
  • Maintain documentation of student contacts and disposition;
  • Support a diverse group of students, including students who are facing situations that impact their ability to be successful at the college, by connecting students with campus and community resources, providing follow-up and case management, and encouraging self-advocacy;
  • Work closely with the Case Manager and Resource Specialist and other key constituents at the college;
  • Serve as a member on the Colleges Student Nourishment and Care Committee (SNACC);
  • Assist with maintaining a database of internal and community referral resources for students and foster working relationships with key personnel at those resources;
  • Comply with applicable reporting requirements as defined under Title IX, ADA, the Clery Act (as a Campus Security Authority), and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (mandated reporting laws);
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other field related to area of assignment; with three (3) years experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, curriculum development, audio/visual or graphic production, grant administration, budget development, program/project management, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, or personal computer operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Awareness of current student development trends;
  • Experience or interest in the community college setting;
  • Commitment to student learning and development;
  • Two years of relevant work experience in higher education, a social service agency serving adolescents/young adults, or a case management position;
  • Experience collaborating with and building partnerships with outside agencies to establish coordinated resources for students;
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual candidate;
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with students-at-risk and colleagues;
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and information technology skills.

$30.03 per hour

This is a grant funded position, and position is contingent on funding.
