Engineering Training Officer- The Training Ship Kennedy offers a unique opportunity to sail a training cruise with cadets during Sea Term 2024 from April 15 th- May 26th. Following a week of alongside training, TS Kennedy departs Buzzards Bay on April 20th to support the teaching and training of freshmen, sophomore, and senior cadets in shipboard engineering systems. All personnel aboard the ship will be required to have a COVID-19 vaccine; the Academy will provide a vaccine for any successful applicant who is not otherwise vaccinated. All sailing aboard TS Kennedy must hold a T.W.I.C. card; MMA Human Resources will assist in the attainment of the credential for those who are eligible, but do not hold a current T.W.I.C.
The successful candidate will instruct students in the "hands-on" laboratory and lecture components of the cadet engineering, and possess excellent knowledge of steam engineering. Conducted six days a week during daytime hours, training includes the evaluation of cadet S.T.C.W. assessments and evaluation. Preferred areas of specialization include: combustion engines, machine and hand tools, hydronic heating systems, brazing and soldering, marine sanitation, instrumentation, hydraulics, fresh water distillation, steam generators, electrical motors, heat exchangers, pumps, and variable frequency drives.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. All chosen applicants will required to interview for the position.
