The Attorney General's Office is looking for a highly motivated individual with a commitment to public service to serve as a District Court prosecutor in the Gaming Enforcement Division within the Criminal Bureau, Western Massachusetts Regional Office in Springfield, MA. The Gaming Enforcement Division is a statewide team of prosecutors, investigators, and administrative and other staff, partnered with the Massachusetts State Police, and charged with investigating and prosecuting gaming-related crimes pursuant to M.G.L. c. 12, § 11M.

Primary Duties: The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) will be involved in investigating and prosecuting criminal conduct related to expanded gaming in the Commonwealth, including violations of M.G.L. c. 23K, G.L. c. 267A and M.G.L. c. 271, and other illegal activity, such as gaming-related financial crime, cheating, and public order offenses. The work in this position will emanate from the MGM/Springfield Casino, and the AAG will be assigned to and appear daily in Springfield District Court.

The AAG will be expected to handle a large District Court caseload and will be charged with leading and coordinating investigations and prosecutions with the Massachusetts State Police and Springfield Police in conjunction with other prosecutors, financial investigators, victim/witness advocates, paralegals, and support staff. The position requires a candidate with a proven track record of versatility and adaptability, and the ability to build bridges and exercise good judgment. Division members work closely with the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit assigned to both the Attorney General's Office and the Gaming Commission, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, which demands a demonstrated history of successful partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. Additional duties will include screening potential cases, fostering relationships with industry stakeholders, participating in trainings, and working cohesively with others in the Attorney General's Office and the Hampden County District Attorney's Office.

All employees assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Division are subject to the Enhanced Code of Ethics adopted pursuant to M.G.L. c. 12, § 11M(c).

Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt

Salary: Salary is based on JD year and experience.

Job Qualifications:

Law school graduate and member of the Massachusetts bar with at least two (2) years of litigation and trial experience as an attorney. Must be willing to learn, eager to be challenged, and comfortable appearing in court. A team player who can write effectively and communicate clearly. Must be self-motivated, disciplined, ethical, and possess the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.

Although this position is based in Springfield, MA, the successful candidate will be required to travel, as needed, to other areas of the Commonwealth in support of investigations and litigation. Accordingly, a valid Massachusetts driver's license is required.

Please Note: Vaccines are required of all AGO employees. We currently anticipate returning to the Office under our new hybrid model on March 1, 2022.
