Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Financial Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operation and leadership of the Student Accounts Office, including student and third-party billing, accounts receivable, collections, student health insurance, the cashiering functions of the College, and the management of the Banner Student Accounts Receivable Module.

The Director of Student Accounts will monitor, evaluate and improve existing processes and operating procedures, maintain and strengthen internal controls, and will be responsible for ensuring that the department provides exceptional customer service to internal and external clients.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee operations of the Student Accounts Office, including billing, receivables and cashiering functions.
  • Supervise the preparation of the daily deposit and accounting feed summaries and other banking related activity.
  • Assist with the reconciliation of Student Accounts Office records with those of the Finance Department to ensure complete agreement of billing, receipts, disbursements and outstanding receivable records. Prepare as needed weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports and analyses.
  • Manage the collections process, including but not limited to developing strategy, creating and monitoring A/R aging, producing monthly A/R reporting, sending collection letters, and working with collection agencies and the MA state intercept program.
  • Process student and vendor refunds within required timeframes.
  • Maintain, evaluate and recommend changes to strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, federal and state regulations.
  • Manage the Banner Student AR Module and ancillary systems including access, security, validation tables, billing rules, upgrades, testing, and implementing new functionality.
  • Maintain and improve web pages related to student accounts; ensure that all communication vehicles (web, email, college publications, new student orientation content) provide consistent and accurate due dates, costs, policies, and other important information.
  • Interact with external auditors, participate in auditing projects, and provides information and access to accounting records as required.
  • Prepare 1098-T forms; develop and deliver annual 1098-T staff training.
  • Recommend, design, and implement policy and process enhancements to continually improve the student experience.
  • Provide training and guidance to all College departments regarding Student Accounts Office policies and procedures for accounts receivable, cashiering, billing, collections and refunds.
  • Develop, mentor, train and motivate team members to elevate the overall proficiency level of the department.
  • Participate in new student orientations, open houses, and other related events both on-campus, off-campus, and virtually. Requires occasional public speaking.
  • Provide direct supervision to Accountant III union position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience working in a Bursar/Student Accounts Office.
  • Bachelor's degree in a traditional academic discipline.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of federal Title IV cash management regulations.
  • Exceptional customer service with strong student-centered focus; commitment to student satisfaction and success which includes the ability to work effectively with a diverse employee and student population as well as collaborate effectively with administrators and others to achieve goals.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in written and verbal forms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Master's degree in a traditional academic discipline.
  • Experience with Banner, or similar ERP system.
  • Experience with reporting software.
  • Experience working with TouchNet, Nelnet, collection agencies, and the student health insurance program (SHIP).
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use applicable information technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Familiarity with debt collection and intercept regulations.

Additional Information:

Position Status: Non-Unit Professional, full-time state funded with benefits.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week.

Salary: $77,207 - $108,000(annually), commensurate with education and experience.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites
