Position Summary
The Financial Supervisor is responsible for supervising, training and developing personnel within the Financial Reporting department under their direction and in providing accounting oversight on bond programs, grant programs, and other Agency programs designated by the Manager of Program Accounting, which includes ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of the data in the financial reports. This individual will perform a full review and approve all prepared financial statements, schedules, and workpapers prepared by the Financial Accountants to support the monthly/quarterly and annual close process. If applicable (depending on the assignment of bond programs), the Financial Supervisor will oversee, or assist in the coordination, the collection and review of information during bond series offerings and debt service processes.
Additionally, the Financial Supervisor will assist the Manager of Program Accounting on the following roles:
- Development, implementation, and maintenance of a system of internal controls and reports to ensure timely reconciliation, accuracy and timely posting of accounting records, and compliance with standards and regulations.
- Planning, coordinating, and monitoring of Agency audit activities as assigned.
- Developing financial report analysis, as well as researching, drafting and maintaining process and reporting procedures for training purposes.
- May perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Program Accounting or the Comptroller.
The Financial Supervisor is a hybrid position under MassHousing’s Alternative Workplace Strategies.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, train and develop personnel.
- Approve prepared financial statements, schedules, and workpapers for designated programs.
- Review or assist in coordination and collection of information for bond series offerings for designated programs, if applicable.
- Oversee and review debt service processes and payments, if applicable.
- Propose accounting journal entries to the General Ledger as necessary.
- Review and approve the reconciliation of various bank and General Ledger accounts.
- Collaborate with staff in other Departments within Finance and throughout the Agency to complete work assignments and lead or assist in Finance special projects and system developments that impact Program Accounting.
- Sound critical thinking skills, including the ability to exercise sound judgement, anticipate problems and opportunities, and explore options and present solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Program Accounting or Comptroller.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a member of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective time management and project management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Understanding of accounting concepts.
Minimum Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
- Five (5) or more years of accounting experience in a financial institution, mortgage banking firm or a CPA firm, preferably with a focus on mortgage lending and financial service activities. Knowledge of the housing finance industry a plus.
- One of the following professional designations preferred: CPA, CMA and/or MBA.
Salary Range: $94,184.76 to $122,440.29
