POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for bidding, ordering, tracking, and expediting material and equipment purchases for industrial construction projects. Performs administration of purchase orders following commitments involving - scope changes, invoicing, purchase order closeout and warranty management. Will work with pre-established national account vendors and will assist in efforts to source new vendors for projects throughout the U.S. Supports all company projects and external company offices to ensure accurate, timely and quality delivery of goods and services. The Buyer II must possess the ability to take the lead in specialty purchasing roles, collaborate with project teams, and generate exceptional results.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Purchase technical/specialized equipment, bulk materials, site consumables, and secure services in a fast-paced environment.- Must understand the jobsite need dates (required onsite dates) and ensure goods are delivered on time to support ongoing field operations.
- Negotiate and coordinate with vendors on complex material and equipment requirements, purchasing in a competitive environment.
- Identify incomplete information and ensure there are no scope gaps in vendor bids.
- Effectively place orders with attention to accuracy, cost efficiency, and schedule.
- Possess skills to ensure all goods purchased meet rigid specifications.
- Expedite orders from purchase order award to delivery at project site.
- Management of complex delivery schedules that must be communicated to the project team.
- Assists in the schedule development for project proposals.
- Assists the estimating department on proposals regarding equipment scope and price.
- Supports the Project/Construction Manager in the development of project reports and status updates.
- Communicate within the procurement department to ensure that all purchasing activities are consistent with company policy and procedures and department goals.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in procurement, preferably within the engineering or construction industries.- Four-year college degree in a business-related field, or combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Strong background in the utilization of ERP system software (SAP, SmartPlant, Spectrum, Vista ViewPoint, etc.).- Ability to work with project a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Basic knowledge of sales and use tax and tax-exempt transactions.
- Fundamental understanding of the procurement/accounting interface. Must understand how the costs are committed on a project and the accounting requirements that must be met to get vendors paid.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the construction industry; it’s vendors, contractors and customers.
- Capacity to work with other departments within the organization. Must be a team player who can reach consensus with others and solve complex problems.
- Self-motivating and capable of taking initiative to obtain process improvements.
- Strong skills required utilizing Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Has developed and maintains a contact list of typical and preferred vendors within the company’s industrial sector.
- Knowledge of best practices for managing daily issues and tasks.
- Accepts extra duties as situations arise.
- Works efficiently and calmly when tight deadlines or other stress factors arise.
- Strong negotiating skills.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position does require some travel to the jobsites. The jobsite work environment will expose you to some hazards and physical risks, which requires the adherence to basic safety precautions and wearing of appropriate PPE.- This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
HOURS:
This position is a standard Full-Time position, with a general business operating schedule, Monday-Friday.
TRAVEL:
Travel required up to 15%
