POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety Specialist assists the Safety Manager in all safety related matter and ensure compliance with federal, state and corporate environmental, health and safety regulations are met. Responsible for safety functions necessary to support MIC at an assigned jobsite
TRAVEL:
Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct safety training, job safety analysis, workplace audits and incident responses as needed
- Coordinate and present safety training to support MIC and client requirements, including planning, documentation, and presentation. This will include New Hire Orientation, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory, etc.
- Understand the OSHA regulations and how they are applied
- Recognize hazardous situations and mitigate satisfactorily
- Identify and document onsite safety risks or discrepancies during daily site walks. Tracks safety issues daily and recommend strategies to eliminate hazards, as needed.
- Provide Safety Leadership creating enthusiasm and participation among management and craft workers, resulting in excellent safety performance
- Input and review incident reports
- Write, organize, and implement the jobsite safety plans.
- Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner.
- Work directly with the Site Manager and the management team to develop and implement and maintain an effective site-specific safety plan.
- Communicate between MIC and client management regarding safety matters

- Minimum of 1 year of construction safety experience and ability to work in the outdoor environment and around related equipment
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- Working to obtain CHST or other BCSP Cert. GSP is acceptable.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
- When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Set a personal example of safe behavior.
- Functional computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Type and write reports with accuracy and appropriate grammar
- Able to speak, and write clearly
- Must have knowledge of hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills, and written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands
- Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
- Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
- Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.
- This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights.
- Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.

HOURS:
This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
