We are seeking a Tax Director who will manage all aspects of MasterClass's tax strategy, planning, reporting, audits, and compliance. In this role you will interact with senior leaders across the organization and will be the liaison to coordinate the flow of information between various functions. You will provide leadership, guidance, and assistance for all tax-related matters, as well as develop and refine best practices. As our Tax Director you will have a strategic, hands-on role and will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer. This role could be remote.
What You Will Do:
- Oversee completion of federal, international, and state income tax returns, including all related analysis and support
- Manage audits of federal and state income tax, along with state and local filings
- Lead and oversee the preparation of all jurisdictional income tax provisions, including ensuring accurate and timely ASC 740 tax accounting and financial reporting disclosures
- Monitor legislative changes in tax laws that may impact tax positions, including tax accounting implications
- Establish strategies to minimize tax expense and exposures with regard to taxes paid for federal, state, and foreign income taxes, property taxes, etc.
- Ensure compliance with transfer pricing documentation requirements
- Ensure appropriate internal controls related to tax matters are in place and operate correctly
- Conduct extensive communication with leadership across business functions (Accounting, Legal, Financial Planning, Operations, HR)
- Research complex tax issues and summarize results to management and regularly engage with planning opportunities and tax law changes
- Perform tax due diligence, provide structural advice on transactions, analyze proposed acquisitions, collaborate with deal teams, and provide ad hoc advice on all tax matters
- Establish and maintain formal tax policies, practices, and procedures to ensure US GAAP compliance and strong internal controls with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
- Supervise, manage, and collaborate with outside tax advisors and counsels on various projects, as well as evaluate and provide perspectives
- Oversee and/or complete special projects as required
About You:
- Bachelor's degree
- 10 years of relevant tax experience, preferably with a mix of public accounting and multinational corporate environment
- Streaming experience is preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex matters with simplicity and clarity to non-experts across the company
- Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a fast-paced team-based environment
- A team player with the ability to function individually and collectively to work well under pressure, perform and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, exercise initiative and creativity to meet deadlines and goals
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to perform and comprehend complex financial analysis
- Organized, strategically focused, detailed oriented, and able to deal with ambiguity
- Action-oriented and solution-driven with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
