What are the responsibilities and job description for the Density Functional Theory Intern position at MathWorks?
- Job: 30106-KCAR
- Location:
- Department:
Do you enjoy using MATLAB for science? Do you enjoy sharing knowledge with others in an engaging and interactive way? If so, this internship role may be perfect for you. You will work closely with MathWorks employees and help educators and researchers in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and material science.
MATLAB and MATLAB-based community toolboxes provide researchers a rapid prototyping platform for the development and testing of new algorithms and methods in electronic structure calculations of quantum many-body systems (such as molecules or crystals). MATLAB's Live Editor provides educators with an engaging and interactive environment to teach computational courses, such as density-functional theory (DFT).
By this intern position, you will gain valuable professional education experience working within a leading scientific and engineering software company.
ResponsibilitiesYou will develop modular curriculum material on DFT
- Develop Live Scripts containing fundamentals and applications of Kohn-Sham Density Functional Theory.
- Build examples that include electronic structure calculations in molecules, crystals, surfaces, and nanowires, leveraging MATLAB community toolboxes such as KSSOLV (momentum-space DFT) and M-SPARC (real-space DFT).
- Create a GitHub repository with the developed material.
- Write the material for lecturers so they will be able to use the material and modify it as they wish in their class.
- Work in collaboration with other team members covering MathWorks' Live Editor, Chemistry, and Physics.
- Candidates must be pursuing a master's level or a PhD level degree in a technical discipline.
- Experienced in Ab-initio Density Functional Theory calculations.
- Proficient in MATLAB and a MATLAB-based DFT community toolbox such as KSSOLV and M-SPARC.
- Excellent written communication skills in English.
- Strong time management skills.
