Job Description - Product Manager

Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally.

We are currently seeking a Product Manager who will be responsible for setting the strategic roadmap for new product introductions and for existing product enhancements within the industrial markets for Matrix to ensure revenue goals and budgets are met. They will engage with customers and internal stakeholders, evaluate product performance to diagnose problem areas, propose solutions, and oversee their implementation. A successful Product Manager will be able to maintain both a high level and detailed understanding of the intricacies of each product under their management. This person needs to be a highly professional individual with strong leadership qualities who demonstrates the ability to communicate cross-functionally and interpersonally with a wide range of peers and employees and can grasp differing viewpoints clearly.

This position reports to the VP of Industrial Business Development.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a three-year road map for our products to illustrate our vision and plan into the future.
  • Develop and maintain a business proposal that makes a compelling case for continued investment into the products.
  • Manage the entire product line life cycle from sun-setting legacy products to prototyping and testing new features/products and ideas.
  • Drive buy-build-partner analysis, and where necessary, review potential partner relationships for the product.
  • Monitor competition and develop strategies and tactics to reduce the threat.
  • Manage product from concept to design, sample production, testing, forecast, cost, mass production, promotion, support, and finally product end of life.
  • Focus product deliverables on manufacturability, usability, and cost reduction.
  • Manage agile product development process from product management point of view.
  • Develop and implement product strategies consistent with company vision.
  • Develop product positioning and go to market strategy.
  • Develop and templatize end-user, marketing, and channel partner product documentation.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from customers, stakeholders, and other teams to shape requirements, features, and products.
  • Identify areas for growth and create strategic product line road maps to help drive adoption of the product and differentiating features.
  • Analyze potential partner relationships for the product and lead the effort to integrate our applications with other leading industry systems.
  • Work with QA engineers to create test plans.
  • Serve as an in-house expert for our products and become the go-to person for all functional issues.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments.
  • Make creative recommendations to expand product base and vision.
  • Manage all lifecycle stages for a product from ideation through sunset, with responsibility for ensuring that deliverables are understood, and releases are delivered on time.
  • Facilitate the prioritization and completion of projects with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop clear, actionable plans to facilitate the launch of new products.
  • Lead the operationalization, execution, and training associated with the introduction of new products, from conception to launch by closely collaborating with senior leadership, operations, marketing, sales, research, regulatory, engineering, and other departments.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing program performance using both internal data on program performance (such as course evaluations and retention) and external data on market opportunities (such as competitive intelligence and industry characteristics). Prepare and present recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments to ensure implementation and execution of upgrades, modality changes, new requirements, and enhancements.

Qualifications

The Product Manager requirements and qualifications are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Marketing, Business, Technology, or similar relevant field.
  • 5 years of marketing, product development, and/or product management experience.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Creative thinker with a vision.
  • Attention to details.
  • Tech savvy and passionate about building products.
  • Metrics-driven: Strong analytical and synthesis skills are a must, including the ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable information.
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties with strong motivational skills, especially when it comes to leading a team.
  • Subject matter expert/industry experience a strong plus.
  • This position requires domestic and international travel to customer and potential sites up to 20%.
  • Excellent networking skills.
  • Proficient in financial and business analysis.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, and project management; ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Skilled in budget development and management.
  • Ability to drive the product management process with diplomacy and enthusiasm.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with aptitude in Excel.
  • Experience working in a global environment with diverse functional and business units in large, matrixed project teams a plus.

Working Conditions

The general working conditions for this position is an office environment It will be necessary from time to time to visit the warehouse where safety precautions will need to be taken. While in the office, the noise level is usually low. However, the noise level can be low to moderate in the warehouse.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements can include long hours on a computer keyboard and prolonged periods of sitting. There may also be periods of standing and/or walking. The ability to lift 10 pounds may also be necessary.
