Technical Writer

Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally.

We are currently seeking a Technical Writer. The Technical Writer will produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our products. This role will collaborate with developers, quality engineers, product managers, and usability experts to make our products easier to use. The chosen candidate will possess outstanding writing skills and be able to efficiently collaborate with peers. Moderate experience with IT systems is preferred. This position works in a team environment either at our home office in Newburgh, IN or our satellite office in Lexington, KY. This is not a remote position.

This position reports to the Product Manager at the location hired.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.

• Create high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.

• Write plain, detailed, and straightforward user interface text, online help, and developer or installation guides.

• Prepare tutorials to help end-users use a variety of applications.

• Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities.

• Develop and maintain the information architecture.

Qualifications & Competencies

• 2 years of experience working as a Technical Writer or in another relevant position.

• Significant experience in creating quality documentation with attention to detail.

• Strong ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and explain them.

• Excellent written English skills.

• Good practical experience with Microsoft Office.

• Knowledge about the SDLC and software development.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or other relevant areas.

Working Conditions

• Much of the work will take place in a typical office setting (cubicle, desk, chair, computer, etc.) or in a lab/testing/development area (lab benches, test equipment, etc.).

• Occasional travel to vendor or partner facilities may be required (such as a contract manufacturing or engineering facility) but are rarely any different from the office conditions.

• Occasional travel to end-use locations, in an underground mining environment, supporting initial product installations and testing or troubleshooting abnormal or unusual issues observed in the field.’

• Matrix employees are furnished with and required to wear safety gear such as hard hats, steel toe shoes, reflective clothing, earplugs, and safety glasses when working in those locations requiring such protective gear.
