About the Role
The Senior Payroll Manager is responsible for the direction and management of payroll services and related time and labor systems in support of company employees, including union employees, located in multiple locations/states. This position leads and directs payroll system upgrades and improvements as needed.
What you’ll do:
- Provide leadership and direction in the utilization, accuracy, and effectiveness of US payroll operations.
- Lead the resolution of payroll, benefits payments, and payroll tax related issues.
- Verify time and labor rules are set up correctly in the time and labor applications and are in compliance with collective bargaining agreements and corporate guidelines.
- Review exception reports for time submitted to verify hours and rules are reasonable. Coordinate and resolve inaccurate information with field operations.
- Verify unapproved time and coordinate with field locations to ensure time is approved to meet scheduled payroll cycle.
- Assist field with questions concerning time and labor.
- Review time and labor daily interfaces to Ceridian and ensure files were transmitted successfully.
- Facilitate process compliance, standardization, continuous improvement, and best practices.
- Engage businesses and install common metrics to measure progress.
- Develop and promote a consistent approach to US payroll delivery and management.
- Establish and direct payroll internal controls with the emphasis on maintaining data integrity, security, as well as process design/compliance and improvement.
- Direct the establishment of internal service level agreements, key metrics, and ongoing reporting of performance.
- Schedule, audit, and review process to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of payroll data.
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations effecting payroll, payroll tax, garnishment, and business unit chargebacks.
- Establish, direct and coordinate payroll vendor relationships.
- Work with corporate tax, finance, human resources, business leaders and business unit staff to address matters relating to payroll services.
You have these skills:
- Advanced knowledge of payroll processes and applicable laws.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with payroll processes as they relate to a unionized workforce.
- Advanced experience and knowledge leading a team of payroll professionals.
- Technical experience with payroll systems.
And these qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience, training, and education in the area of Payroll and labor systems.
- Prior management experience; experience of 10 years or more preferred.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of payroll complexities related to union collective bargaining agreements.
- In-depth knowledge of integrated HR/Payroll system, experience in managing payroll audits, solid understanding of local, state, and federal tax and payroll regulations and reporting requirements and experience in managing GL functions associated with payroll working closely with company finance and accounting departments.
Extra credit if you have:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
