Maureen Joy is seeking a middle school science teacher for the 2024-25 school year.


The Opportunity:

Maureen Joy Charter School seeks joyful, passionate, creative, and dedicated middle school teachers for grades 5-8 who are committed to fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment for young people. Our K-8 school is dedicated to providing a robust learning and social experience that nurtures and challenges each young person to grow academically, socially, and personally.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Middle School Education or a content-related field. 
  • Valid teaching certificate for K-6 or secondary education.
  • Proven experience in classroom teaching at the middle school level. 
  • Strong understanding of state standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Ability to utilize diverse and effective teaching methods.


Key Responsibilities
  • In alignment with departmental visions, execute a rigorous, standards-based curriculum, constantly thinking about how to scaffold learning to make it both challenging and joyful for all young people.Submit weekly lesson plans and/or internalization plans for feedback from your Instructional Coach, incorporating this feedback to enhance the rigor and joy in your lessons.Use a daily data analysis cycle during class, as well as weekly and unit-level reviews, to track and meet ambitious student goals.Analyze and utilize classroom data to refine lessons and systems, ensuring maximum effectiveness and student engagement.Implement Middle School-wide systems and routines to create a cohesive and aligned classroom culture.Participate actively in professional development sessions, regular observations, and feedback conversations to continuously improve teaching practices.Engage in weekly lesson internalization and grade-level team meetings.Create and maintain a classroom atmosphere that encourages active learning, engagement, and participation from all students.Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback.Collaborate with other teachers, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.Implement classroom management strategies that ensure a safe and productive learning environment

  • Experience with project-based learning and portfolio assessments.
  • Passionate about inquiry-based or student-centered education, encouraging active learning and critical thinking in our young people

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Adept at problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of child development and effective teaching strategies for this age group.
  • Skill in fostering a collaborative and professional learning environment.
  • A proven ability to implement data-driven instruction and decision-making.

  • Assist in various school duties, including arrival, lunch, dismissal, and recess as needed.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Engage in continuous professional growth to improve teaching and learning.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and regulatory requirements.


Reporting Structure
  • You will report directly to the Middle School Director.


Miscellaneous
  • Participation in extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports, or after-school tutoring is encouraged. 
  • Flexibility to take on various roles within the school as needed to support overall student engagement and success.
