The Mayor's Office on Women’s Policy and Initiatives (MOWPI) is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all women and their families within the District of Columbia. MOWPI, working in conjunction with the DC Commission for Women, is in a unique position to serve as a liaison between the public and private sectors and the Executive Office of the Mayor. The office tracks local women’s issues, concerns and proposals and presents these ideas to the Mayor and officials in the Bowser Administration.

Major duties
Working with the Director, serves as a liaison to community based organizations, associations, and businesses.
Participates in community meetings, activities and programs to further the Office’s mission and reach.
Serves as a liaison and engage with programs to develop policies and program and lead outreach activities to support the Mayor’s vision.
Support internal and external communication as PIO and social media management, including Twitter, Facebook.
Coordinates services among District agencies to ensure timely responses to community concerns.
Develops and coordinates community workshops, and other relevant programs aimed at bridging gaps and linking residents with services and resources.
COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Superior knowledge of critical needs of the women in the District of Columbia.
Strong background in program development and implementation.
Demonstrated track record of community outreach and engagement experience
Proactive and ability to work well under pressure, meet tough deadlines in a fast paced, demanding environment.
Strong writing and public speaking abilities.
Experience with social media platforms
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences including senior government officials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of two years working in community outreach and advocacy on women's issues, public policy.
Demonstrated knowledge and/or connections to women's issues.
Work environment
The work is performed primarily in-person in an office setting. Times in the field are permitted when there is a related event.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
There is a legal requirement that each new appointee to the Excepted Service either:
be a District of Columbia resident at the time of appointment; or
become a District resident within one hundred eighty (180) days of appointment.
The law also requires that Excepted Service employees remain District residents during the duration of the individual’s appointment. Failure to remain a District resident for the duration of the appointment will result in forfeiture of employment.
