Job Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for the planning, directing and overseeing of the day to day business operations within the company. The Director of Operations manages and leads Regional and Site Managers and provides support to them to ensure the overall service delivery of petroleum products and locomotive servicing, ensuring all deliveries are completed timely, safely and while adhering to company, customer, and government rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

1) Oversee and monitor daily operations of sites. This includes daily contact with Regional and Site Managers and visiting sites on a regular basis to ensure each site is operating efficiently and safely.

2) Provide quality services by enforcing quality standards set by the company and the customer. This includes communication with vendors, customers and Railroad management to ensure each site is operating effectively and efficiently.

3) Responsible for developing and implementing long-term goals and improvements in operations to foster continued success and growth at sites.

4) Provide direction, on-going guidance and training to Regional and Site Managers and identify opportunities for improvement through performance management.

5) Provide support to Regional and Site Managers on recruitment and employee performance management.

6) Responsible for the opening and set up of new sites, including coordinating customer needs; staffing and recruitment; scheduling, and complete location set up.

7) Review, monitor and analyze budgets and develop budget plans for each site with Regional and Site Managers.

8) Collaborate with Human Resources and Safety in developing, updating and adhering to company procedures, programs and policies.

9) Comply with safety rules and regulations at the federal, state and local levels, to include FMCSA, FRA, DOT and other government agencies which may apply to company operations.

General Responsibilities

1) Will lead Regional and Site Managers to promote teamwork essential for the growth of the sites and company.

2) Complete all tasks while adhering to McAlister Standards of Service and customer safety requirements.

3) Promote and support company image and goals.

4) Stay familiar with company policies and procedures.

5) Maintain a positive attitude while promoting a healthy environment with open communication.

6) There may be other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

1) Day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours will be necessary as circumstances require.

2) Frequent travel time will be required. Traveling to meet with Regional Managers and customers will be necessary.

3) Occasional work may be performed in an outdoor environment and weather conditions of all types should be anticipated. Exposure to rain, snow, heat and cold as well as intense summer heat and winter storms could be expected depending on geographical area.

4) When in the field, exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous materials, and high noise levels.

Qualifications

1) Degree in transportation/logistics and 3 years management experience or 5 years management experience in the Transportation Industry.

2) Knowledge and understanding of FMCSA, FRA, and DOT rules and regulations.

3) Acceptance by the customer’s security verification service.

4) Must be able to pass all background checks and pre-employment screenings.

2) Strong managerial and leadership skills and ability to create environment that promotes teamwork.

3) Ability to speak, read and comprehend the English language and the ability to be understood.

4) Ability to compose written correspondence in a professional manner.

5) Ability to anticipate and adapt to change.

6) Ability to implement long-term strategy objectives.

7) Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

8) Strong communication and organizational skills.

9) Computer skills, to include knowledge of Microsoft Suite.

Physical Requirements

1) Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.

2) Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching and reaching.

3) Ability to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement, including computer keyboard.

4) Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
