Purchasing Specialist

OH a leader in the Building Material and Lumber Industry is looking for a qualified PURCHASING SPECIALIST that is responsible for supporting the purchasing department through data entry, system updates, and administrative support.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist Purchasing Manager with vendor research and selection.
- Maintain purchase orders, track orders and investigate any issues.
- Run inventory and stock reports and coordinate with inventory and purchasing supervisor to develop a procurement strategy for assigned product groups.
- Maintain inventory records and files.
- Assist buyers in researching and answering order questions, in obtaining quotes from vendors for special order items; fill in for buyer on “as needed” basis.
- Respond to sales, customer and supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations.
- Prepare, maintain, and review purchasing files, reports, and price lists. Track status of requisitions, contracts, and orders.
- Compare suppliers
- Understand and use computer-based applications related to each supplier as required to create quotes and submit order requests.
- Be alerted to changing market conditions in pricing, product availability, and new products.
- Possess a strong willingness to learn about the company's products
- Perform other miscellaneous job duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High school Diploma, GED or equivalent; Two (2) years’ Degree in
Business preferred, or equivalent in related work experience.
- Proficient in MS Office products including Word and Excel; professional telephone skills. Knowledge of lumber, construction, building supplies preferred.
- Physical demands include lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally and 50 lbs. on a random basis, standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time, and bending or stooping.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Excellent Verbal and Communication.
- Normal office conditions apply most of the time. Employees must have clear, close vision for reading and computer work.
- At times, work is in a warehouse setting and may be performed within a production environment and subject to temperature variations.
