OVERVIEW:

The Director, InternationalTrade Compliance - Americas establishes, implements and audits programs and procedures to ensure McCormick is in compliance with the rules and regulations effecting global trade. The scope of this position includes US and foreign customs regulations, U.S. and foreign export regulations, business relationships with global trade-related service providers, and internal auditing of McCormick’s global trade activities. Responsible for the oversight of all import and export activities for the America's.   

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and provides strategy for the design and oversight of the trade compliance platform which consists of the policies, procedures and systems to support global trade compliance activities. Develop, promote and effectively manage strategic relationships and interface with internal and external entities and personnel at multiple levels and in various disciplines to provide tactical and transactional service related to customs clearance, export compliance, and related regulatory matters while supporting comprehensive continuous improvement (CCI)
  • Develop and manage McCormick’s Import Compliance program to  include the development of USMCA eligibility, vendor declarations, validation and audit procedures to ensure USMCA compliance; managing the harmonized tariff schedule (HTS )classification for all products imported or exported; managing the FDA product codes; managing determinations as to country of origin of all goods imported/exported by company; establishing procedures to ensure goods are imported utilizing the proper basis of appraisement; supporting and helping to manage implementation of plan to become CTPAT and AEO member. Plan, develop, implement and manage customs clearance and compliance processes to minimize net landed cost, deliver highest service level and achieve compliance with all customs laws and regulations.
  • Develop and manage McCormick’s Export Compliance Program, including: maintaining and improving systems for customer and transaction screening; managing global compliance with US sanctions and embargoes and with US anti-boycott rules; supporting the legal department in ensuring compliance with FCPA and other anti-corruption/anti-bribery laws; developing and maintaining an export classification process for all company products, components and technology; managing applications for export licenses as required; managing product registration as required; and ensuring the generation and filing of correct documentation for export transactions.
  • Communicate global international trade compliance policies, procedures and programs across all business units and act as lead internal resource for all units for international trade compliance. Provide advice to operating units covering foreign and US global trade compliance including country-specific import or export restrictions or special programs. Leverage the company’s information technology systems to enhance compliance procedures and manages SAP Foreign Trade utilization and data accuracy
  • Create and maintain recordkeeping systems (including digital systems) to ensure the ready access of documents for compliance purposes. Develop and implement internal audit programs to ensure all operations globally are consistent with McCormick’s import and export compliance policies and procedures and all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement and manage global trade compliance training programs across McCormick’s including vendor and customer training and education, as appropriate, to ensure the understanding of the legal and documentation requirements for governmental compliance.
  • Influence strategic and tactical sourcing decisions with respect to preferential duty treatment, quotas or other import restrictions or trade remedies, export restrictions, free trade agreements and other related factors.
  • Develop and manage a staff of  regional compliance personnel responsible for ensuring compliance with respect to customs regulations, export regulations, business relationships with service providers, and internal auditing of McCormick’s trade activities in their regions..Coach and mentor direct reports and provide career development opportunities through training, external trade associations and professional networking.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in  Business Management, International Trade, Supply Chain or a related discipline
  • CPA, GMA sub-committee IT or AAEI
  • 8-10 years food industry experience 
  • 10 years related experience in US global trade compliance to include government trade laws and regulations. Experience in export/import regulations and U.S. Customs and compliance 
  • 5 years directing, overseeing, managing, leading and developing work teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including cross cultural effectiveness
  • Project management skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving / pc skills, SAP, GTS systems / global process knowledge 
  • Knowledge of global food regulations 
  • Participation in trade associations,
  • Excellent presentation and training skills
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, vendors and government agencies.

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA
  • US Export Compliance certification, US Brokers license and/or Certified Customs Specialist
  • Prior food knowledge in the areas of seasonings, flavorings and/or spices strongly preferred
