What are the responsibilities and job description for the YMCA Summer Camp Town Run Driver position at McGaw YMCA?
Overview
The Town Run Driver supports camp programs and operations with vehicle needs:
- Camper groups on excursions (state parks, other camps, ice cream stands!)
- Staff groups that need transportation for personal errands (Walmart, bank, etc.)
- Pickups and drop-offs in Grand Rapids (Airport, train, bus).
- Campers and staff visits to local medical services, as necessary.
- Everyday errands for camp (post office, grocery store, etc.)
Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, reliable, flexible, and enjoy engaging with youth and young adults. Our campers and staff enjoy the adventure of getting off camp and you will often by an integral part of their experience!
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
· In the morning, checks with appropriate persons to get schedule for the day.
· If driving camper group, will coordinate with staff to be ready with van at designated time/location.
- If driving camp vehicle to town, will likely make following stops:
- Mail drop-off/pickup and purchase of stamps as needed
- Purchase of supplies, sundries, and other items at various locations
- Pickup cash at the bank as needed.
- [At Walmart/Meijer, sort items by category before placing on checkout conveyor so receipt can be segmented easily.]
- Upon return to camp from town run:
- Delivers items to the persons who ordered them.
- Delivers mail and packages to the designated location.
- Sorts mail into mailboxes
- Sorts packages and leaves staff packages in designated location
- Fills out package slips for camper packages, places slips in mailboxes, and delivers packages to designated location.
- Keeps a record of all purchases and submits receipts, broken down by category, to the Office Assistant.
- Makes entries as needed in the vehicle logbooks.
- Attends vehicle safety sessions prior to driving any camp vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Age 21 or older
- Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
- Experience driving trailers preferred, but can be trained
- Certified in CPR and First Aid
- Highly organized
- A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population for the fulfillment of YMCA goals.
Schedule: 20-30 hours/week, Varied Schedule, generally between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday, with some nights and weekends based on availability
Pay: $14.00 – 15.00 per hour
Dates of employment: May 16 – August 11 (flexible based on candidate needs)
