SUMMARY
The Trailer Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance procedures and minor repairs on semi-truck trailers with little or no supervision. Such procedures/repairs include Federal Highway Inspections, light welding, brake repair, electrical system repair, minor body repairs, and tire & wheel repair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily huddles with Service Manager and operations personnel to discuss filling upcoming orders for equipment.- Utilizes Maintenance system to record all work performed.
- Performing safety and legally required inspections (FHWA/BIT).
- Ability to drive yard hostler and move and spot equipment in the yard and shop as needed
- Ability to Fabricate and weld as necessary.
- Work in a safe manner.
- Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to perform common trailer body repairs, including upper and lower rail replacement, body panel replacement- Ability to perform brake inspections, diagnostic and repairs as per manufacturer and federal guidelines.
- Ability to diagnose and repair suspension components
- Knowledge of liftgates and repair procedures desirable
- Knowledge of transportation refrigeration units desirable
- Ability to stand in place, bend over, walk extended periods and lift over 50lbs required
- Ability to climb ladders and use industrial powered equipment like forklifts, man lifts, and scissor lifts required
- Ability to use pneumatic tools to remove and replace tires.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years verifiable equipment maintenance related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in equipment maintenance and repair.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong work ethic and a desire to succeed.- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Attention to detail and highly organized.
- One to two years welding experience including fabrication of metal parts and assemblies.
- 1 Plus years of experience performing FHWA Inspection.
- 1 Plus years of experience Troubleshooting and repairing ABS.
- 1 Plus years of experience Troubleshooting, repairing and replacing brake components.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
A valid driver’s license issued in state of employment.
Brake training certification desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to working near moving mechanical parts, working in high precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee will be exposed to extremes in temperature and environmental conditions. The employee may work in a shop, yard or out of a mobile service vehicle.
The candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
