- This is an onsite position. Travel to and work from our Research Triangle Park, NC location will be required.
- Perform basic and routine support and monitoring for the Network Operations Center (NOC)
- Provide real-time support and service to MCNC’s clients connected to the network, NCREN (North Carolina Research and Education Network)
- Field, troubleshoot and escalate trouble calls and email queries
- Contact vendors, telecom providers, and clients directly in order to troubleshoot and seek out problem resolution
- Record and track scheduled maintenances, outages, service degradation, and general inquiries from clients via Footprints ticketing tracking software
- Update network and client information stored in the NCREN network operations database
- Provide NOC staff support
- Performs other assignments/duties as needed
- Orientation to MCNC’s business
- A work plan, co-developed with intern supervisor to outline the goals of the anticipated internship
- Invitations to other meetings to learn about MCNC’s business
- Current student pursuing an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Network or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
- Knowledge/experience with Cisco equipment
- Knowledge of IP networking principles
- Basic understanding of routers and switches
- Strong TCP/IP fundamentals
- Knowledge of standard network change and configuration control policies
- Experience with physical wiring and cabling
- Must be able to work effectively individually as well as in a team environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities successfully
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
- Must have a valid driver's license and will be required to drive a company vehicle on company business. Pre-employment and annual MVR checks will be required during your employment with the company for this position in order to be approved to drive a company-owned vehicle
- Background and sex offender checks will be performed for pre-employment and annually during your employment with the company
- This role will be required to adhere to the MCNC Substance Abuse policy, which may include drug/alcohol screening at hire and periodically or randomly during employment.
