Position Overview
The Benefits Manager will be responsible for creating and distributing communications, maintaining employee and benefits records, and working with HR Representatives, HR Managers, and the Head of HR to ensure compliance. This role will be accountable for performing daily administrative functions for the benefits programs, including medical/dental/vision insurance, life and disability, 401k, health savings accounts (HSAs) and our Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
This position will manage all aspects of benefits administration as well as provide analytical and technical support in the delivery of the benefits programs. The qualified candidate will enroll, manage, and maintain employee healthcare plans, 401k plans, and defined benefits, in addition to providing annual census data for insurance carriers, vendors, and senior management.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain employee healthcare plans, 401k plans, and the defined benefits plan.
- Coordinate benefits processing, including enrollments, terminations, and claims.
- Advise and inform employees of the details of the company benefit programs, payroll questions, and more.
- Resolve benefit related issues and respond to queries and requests in a timely manner.
- Build positive relationships with internal business partners by understanding organizational priorities.
- Lead, plan, and manage effective communications and education of benefits to include time off policies, open enrollment, wellness, etc.
- Evaluate future potential benefits to ensure the company is investing in the right areas to attract and retain diverse top talent, present recommendations, changes, and enhancements to leadership.
- Relay emerging benefits trends to recommend and maintain a competitive benefits portfolio
- Ensure the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in Workday and ensure the transfer of accurate enrollment information to vendors
Skills and Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of the DOL, Federal, and CA employment laws. (FMLA required)
- HR background – a degree, SHRM/PHR certificate, or equivalent work experience in a HR specific role
- Fundamental to Advanced knowledge of Health Plans & Benefit principles
- Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Solid time management
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong clerical skills
- Experienced with MS Office
- Proven work experience with HRIS (i.e., Workday, Namely, ADP, or others)
- Must possess the following: Broad and deep knowledge of the field and best practices
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or Finance is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Human Resources functions with Benefits Administration responsibilities
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a people manager or leadership role
