Position: Design Draftsman
The mission of Product Design Group at ME Global is to provide the organization with the design of new innovative mill liners and other wear products & solutions. The draftsman will take direction from the Manager of Design and other senior draftsmen in order to provide good quality drawings and design proposals for the sales organization, the customers, the pattern shops, and production facilities. He/She would provide solid sound engineering drafting practices and engineering document control. The Design Draftsman will need to acquire a thorough understanding of the production process used to manufacture the castings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Independently lead computer-aided design (CAD) & concepts for new and existing products to meet customer & product specifications, with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in Autodesk Inventor 2021 to create or alter CAD models of complex mill liner or cone crusher components and assemblies, and detailed mechanical drawings.
- Ensures compliance with established design standards, manuals, safety factors, geometric tolerances, and customer, marketing and engineering specifications.
- Execute an engineering change order (ECO) in a timely manner with minimal supervision using Autodesk Professional Vault application.
- Evaluates tolerance stack-ups to insure proper fit of components and proper application of GD&T techniques.
- Interfaces with pattern shop maker, quality, and marketing to conduct a cross-functional design review before drawings are finalized and released for production.
- Understands and implements elements of design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for operation (DFO) during the product design process.
- Travel, on a limited basis, to other company locations in the US and customer sites in Canada.
Qualifications:
- Two-year technical degree or approved equivalent in the field of Drafting or Design
- 4 plus years in design
- Exceptional mechanical design drafting practices, including proficiency and full compliance with
- ASME Standard Y14.5 – 2009 and relevant GD&T standards.
- Extensive Autodesk Inventor knowledge with advanced features desired.
- Knowledge of Autodesk Vault Professional is needed.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with varying due dates.
- Well versed with MS Office Products.
- Good understanding of top-down modeling and 3D parameterization techniques is a plus.
- Good Interpersonal & Communication skills to work with others in the department.
- Ability to work independently in a team-based environment and produce quality drawings and models in a timely manner.
- Foundry or Mining background a plus, but not required
- Knowledge of French language is a plus, but not required
