What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Manager position at Meadow Gold Dairies Hawaii?
The Operations Manager is responsible for driving operational excellence amongst the warehouse, logistics, and merchandising teams. He/she is primarily responsible for People Development, Business Development, Expense Control and Asset Management of the operations teams within an operating branch.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Functions as a leader, emulating the behaviors expected by the company of all employees.
- Manages the hiring process within the operations departments to identify and hire the best attitudes possible and train accordingly.
- Ensures each employee has a development plan and the plan is reviewed on a regular basis.
- Holds people accountable for their actions.
- Works with senior leadership and the sales team to develop a strategy for the branch that promotes both top-line and bottom-line growth and Customer satisfaction and retention.
- Embraces change when needed and strives to continuously improve the performance of the operation.
- Creates and sets departmental KPI’s to measure improvement.
- Ensures productivity of the workforce, fleet, and facilities.
- Develops and controls an expense budget in concert with senior leadership.
- Ensures processes are in place to monitor, control, and reduce inventory losses from becoming damaged, spoiled, or obsolete.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; counseling employees, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Direct reports include day and night managers/supervisors, logistic and merchandising supervisors, and other operations personnel.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong team player that thrives in a fast-moving environment.
- Able to drive performance of direct reports and lead a team with lean manufacturing processes.
- Can understand P&L statements and analyze areas for production improvement.
- Possesses knowledge of proper material handling techniques.
- Able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Can understand interdepartmental consequences of all decisions and actions.
- Able to analyze data and draw conclusive statements about information that appears to be beyond normal operating activity.
- Demonstrates proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
- Able to handle employee disputes, operational concerns, and order/delivery discrepancies calmly and effectively.
- Able to summarize numerical data in fractions, percentages, averages and in graphical presentation.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent job history within the distribution industry showing progressive positions of responsibility.
- 3 years of progressive supervisory experience managing a team of 10 or more.
- Warehouse, transportation, and supply chain experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license; Current CDL is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be flexible to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Frequently required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, crouch, climb and sit intermittently up to 10 hours per day.
- Exposure to temperatures ranging from -15 °F to 88 °F.
- Frequent use of a sit-down forklift, standup forklift, walkie/rider pallet jack and other material handling equipment.
- Frequent use of a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
