What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer position at MEC?
Our growing company is seeking to hire a Project Engineer that will be based out of our Byron Center, Michigan facility. As an employee/owner at MEC you will lead the planning and successful execution of program and equipment launches. This will require proficiency in project management fundamentals as well as the ability to lead cross-functional teams comprised of purchasing, engineering, production, quality and sales representatives.

Lead assigned programs from project award through launch, and support through end of program.

Cover the full scope of project management including but not limited to:

Thorough understanding, documentation, and attainment of both customer and MEC requirements for quality, capacity, timing, and product characteristics

Translation of the requirements into a clear plan with a robust task breakdown, assigned owners, budgets, and timing of tasks and major milestones

Maintain the timeline and plan throughout the project

Coordinate regular communication with the program team

Ensure resources are effectively planned and committed including labor (direct and indirect), floor space, equipment, and tooling.

Identify and manage key risks

Proactively escalate any issues or roadblocks

Provide regular status reviews to management

Manage customer communications (meetings, reports, etc.) for the program

Initiate and obtain approval of Major Expenditure Authorizations (MEAs) for program related equipment and tooling.

Ensure compliance with IATF16949, MEC’s APQP process, and other applicable procedures and policies including completion of gate approvals.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar combination of experience and education.

Three to Five years of related experience in manufacturing environment or combination of the education and experience

Excellent computer skills including experience with all Microsoft Office products.

Project/Program management experience.

Working knowledge of Lean principles.

Ability to lead and function in a team environment, while effectively communicating across various levels of the organization.

Ability to write concise reposts and present information to management and customer groups.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Work with little direction (other than standard procedures).

Effective in directing and guiding others toward task accomplishment

Knowledge of CNC tube bending, laser cutting, robotic welding and stamping processes.
