Mecklenburg County Emergency Communications Center
Public Safety Communications Officer Starting Salary: $40,657 plus excellent benefits package including employee health insurance provided to employee at no cost and 85% Family Insurance Coverage.
Receives emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch calls for law enforcement, fire, and EMS. Applicant must have the ability to speak clearly on the phone and radio. Must have the ability to actively listen to others for an understanding of their needs and situations, assertively being able to control these conversations while maintaining a professional attitude. Applicant must be able to take the pertinent information received and enter into CAD (computer-aided system) and inform the appropriate personnel. Monitors dispatched unit's activity, receives and transmits to field unit’s updated information as it’s received.
All applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Work experience with telecommunicating and/or police, fire, or rescue preferred. Applicant must have excellent customer service skills.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Applicants chosen must successfully pass pre-employment requirements that include: drug screening, background check, fingerprinting, typing test, eye and hearing test, and written examination.
Applicants must not have any a felony conviction or a conviction of a Class I or II Misdemeanor involving moral turpitude (Lying, cheating, stealing) or gross misconduct (crimes against a person and crimes involving drugs or other controlled substances).
THIS POSITION REQUIRES WORKING 12 HOUR PERMANENT SHIFT ASSIGNMENTS (7AM-7PM OR 7PM-7AM) OR OTHER ASSIGNED TIMES AS NEEDED, INCLUDING WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS, THE SHIFT WILL BE ASSIGNED AFTER TRAINING. REQUIRES WORKING AS A TEAM PLAYER WHILE ALSO WORKING INDEPENDENTLY. APPLICANT MUST BE ABLE TO SIT FOR AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME.
