This position functions remotely and does not report to a facility on a daily basis.
Primary responsibilities and requirements include:
- Picking up waste and delivering packaging supplies from/to assigned waste customers. Customers should be serviced in a timely and accurate manor.
- Ensuring that each day on route departure that all needed supplies are available on route truck. Any discrepancies should be reported to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Pick up and transport waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations, as well as company protocols. This includes ensuring customers’ waste is packaged properly.
- Absolute professionalism and the highest level of customer service are REQUIRED.
- Ensuring that customers’ needs are met on a continual basis by planning daily routes to accommodate customer issues and requests; such as hours of operation or pick up windows.
- Transporting waste to a transfer location or processing location.
- Loading/unloading route truck.
- Secure all waste and supply items in cargo area of truck with straps and/or load bars.
- Ability to work flexible hours to assist in other route drivers’ coverage needs for vacations, etc. Potential for out-of-state and/or overnights.
- Potential to act as a trainer for new employees or existing employees.
- Assist other drivers on long or heavy workload days or work in the warehouse or processing plant as needed.
- Complete pre and post trip inspections of company vehicle(s); reporting any and all maintenance concerns to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean truck cab and cargo area.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork. Ensure that paperwork is neat, legible, and accurate.
- Communicate route or customer issues including re-routes, container size adjustments, training, etc to Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher.
- Communicate any special customer service requests or changes to Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher; provide sub route drivers any information they may need to know to cover your areas.
- Communicate all information by the close of business, same day.
Education and Experience:
- Education equivalent to high school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to read a map.
- Interacts professionally with various levels of internal and external customers, and portrays a strong professional appearance and attitude at all times and in all situations.
- Two or more years of route driving experience with 26’ box truck is required; completion of an accredited driving school, or more years of commercial driving experience is helpful.
- Maintains current required driver’s license, with an excellent driving record.
- Demonstrates good computer skills and knowledge of internet; must be able to use smart phone applications.
- Required to maintain current Medical Examiners Certification (MEC) issued by a doctor; or must be capable of passing and obtaining MEC.
- Must work safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others while driving, loading, unloading vehicle. Requires constant mental and visual attention relative to the safe operation of the vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 150 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 60 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, push or pull carts weighing as much as 500 pounds.
