Crow River Media, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is seeking an Editor to join the team! We are located an hour west of the Twin Cities and are looking for an experienced journalist to work in collaboration with members of our news team that produces two weekly newspapers. MNG publishes award-winning content (49 Pulitzers) that engages a nationwide audient via 800 multi-media platforms including web, mobile, social and print. We are transforming the news industry.

Essential Functions

• Serve as an editor of our print newspapers and owned/operated websites, crowrivermedia.com, Hutchinsonleader.com and independentreview.net
• Be a recognized leader within our organization who embraces change to best serve the needs and wants of our audience and readers
• Provide guidance on best practices while constantly evaluating how we can improve our use of all media platforms to grow our following
• Be highly focused on gathering of local content and then determine its most appropriate use and presentation
• Editing of our print and digital products

Competencies & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree (with comparable experience) in journalism or related field
• Experience in multimedia reporting breaking news, politics and feature writing
• Ability to constantly assess trending content and best practices that are relevant and/or of interest to our readers
• Create a collaborative environment that encourages production of top-notch print products and digital content
• Organize and lead regular training sessions for editorial staff members to ensure all have the skills and tools needed to complete job expectations
• Be intensely familiar with the communities assigned to oversee, and have trusted connections with local stakeholders
• Collaborate with sales leader in determining/scheduling content related to special “advertorial” publications/projects
• Work closely with other team members on breaking news, social media, developing stories
• Must possess a sense of urgency in providing accurate content that impacts our local communities
• Be a trusted resource throughout the organization
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and some holidays
• Candidate must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is insurable by the company while maintaining reliable transportation

Work Environment

• This job operates in a professional office environment and at the Company and client sites for business meetings and presentations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
