Full Time6 Month Temp to Hire100% On-SiteTopeka, KSWe are seeking a Telecommunications Equipment Planner (BOT Tech) to support multiple new project implementations, ongoing operational needs, and augment our client's team in conducting fiber locates for state construction projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in telecommunications services and technical expertise to ensure the successful execution of projects and maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities : Review complex work requests submitted to the Agency Telecommunications service by internal and external customers.
Attend project planning meetings and conduct site surveys to determine the scope of work.Prepare detailed cost estimates, including total materials and labor resources required for tasks.
Coordinate the acquisition of materials and labor, preparing bills of materials.Work closely with project managers to develop project implementation plans.
Collaborate with contractors to maintain standards and ensure quality craftsmanship.Provide expertise to the Installation and Repair group and other BOT (Business and Operations Technology) teams on the proper usage of the Agency Information Resource Management System and ServiceNow.
Attend and contribute to regular Agency Information Resource Management System and ServiceNow planning meetings.Train and instruct BOT personnel as required on Agency Information Resource Management System and ServiceNow functionality.
Resolve problems related to telephone, network, video, and other complex electronic equipment and cabling.Coordinate repair and network changes or additions with Agency and vendors.
Maintain accurate records of time, materials, scanner and test results, and communication facilities used in installations or service restoration.
Requirements : Technical Proficiency : A solid understanding of telecommunications equipment, including fiber optic cables, networking devices, and related infrastructure components, is essential.
This includes knowledge of telecommunications standards, protocols, and equipment configurations.Fiber Optic Skills : Specific expertise in fiber optic technology, including fiber optic cable types, installation methods, splicing techniques, and testing procedures.
Familiarity with fiber optic testing tools such as OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers) and fiber optic fusion splicers is crucial.
Clear and accurate documentation is essential for project planning, implementation, and ongoing maintenance.Troubleshooting Skills : Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve issues with telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure.
This includes identifying and troubleshooting connectivity issues, signal degradation, and other performance-related problems.
Equipment Installation and Maintenance : Hands-on experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining telecommunications equipment, including routers, switches, fiber optic cables, and related hardware.
Knowledge of industry best practices for equipment installation and maintenance is essential.Safety Protocols : Understanding of safety protocols and procedures when working with telecommunications equipment, especially when performing tasks such as fiber locates, which may involve working in hazardous environments or near electrical systems.
Ability to work in areas with potential exposure to hazards such as A.C. power circuits, falls, asbestos, high noise levels, and mechanical rooms.
Comfort working with power tools and servicing state security installations, including prisons and mental institutions.Willingness to work in emergency situations and be available for intermittent, overnight travel statewide or out of state for training.
