JOB TITLE :
Library Assistant, Senior - Coe Library Help Desk Evening Supervisor
JOB PURPOSE :
Close Coe Library Sunday-Thursday (schedule varies during holidays and between sessions). Supervise and direct the work of HNB employees at the Help Desk.
Provide customer service and research assistance at a busy service point. Process course reserves and billed items.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Close Coe Library and manage building security and emergencies during evening hours.
- Work schedule varies throughout the year. Fall / Spring semesters : Sunday through Thursday 2 : 15 pm-11 : 15 pm and 3 : 15 pm-12 : 15 am;
- Summer semesters : Sunday through Thursday 10 : 15 am-7 : 15 pm; Between sessions : Monday through Friday 8 : 45 am-5 : 45 pm;
holiday hours vary.Provide enthusiastic circulation and research assistance to library Help Desk patrons in person, by phone, and email.
Explain and interpret circulation policies and procedures, determine when special circumstances exist, and grant exceptions based on those decisions.
Address high-level patron inquiries and issues, especially during evening hours.Supervise and direct the work of Help Desk student employees.
Ensure all tasks and duties are completed properly and in a timely fashion. Train student employees individually or in groups and create training materials.
Participate in screening and hiring new employees.Process traditional and electronic course reserves. Apply knowledge of copyright law and Libraries' policy to make determinations regarding reserve requests.
Correspond with instructors about the availability of their reserve items, student needs, and use statistics.Process and bill patrons for long overdue and lost materials in the ILS and prepare bursar files or official paperwork to file with University Financial Services.
Track claims return search process and correspond with patron regarding search statuses. View damaged media items. Explain and interpret billing policies and procedures, determine when special circumstances exist, and address patron inquiries and complaints.
Create, revise, and update manuals and documentation for tasks related to job duties.Contribute to a positive work environment by demonstrating a commitment to teamwork within a large and complex organization.SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS :
Prepare departmental deposits, balance cash register and change machine.Maintain public handout racks, supplies, and overall departmental appearance.
Train on and perform essential duties of other employees in the unit as needed.Serve on committees, attend meetings, and special projects as assigned.COMPETENCIES :

Education :
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Experience :
1-year customer service work experience OR 1-year supervisory work experience
