Job Summary

Library Service Associates connect customers to library resources, services, and programs. They assist customers with various circulation tasks as well as troubleshoot patron issues, and answer basic research questions.

They ensure a safe and welcoming environment and provide quality programming. Library Service Associates work under the general supervision of Librarians and Managers.

Typical Schedule : Mondays & Tuesdays : 12 : 30 pm - 8 : 15 pmWednesdays : 12 : 45 pm - 8 : 15 pmSaturdays : 9 : 45 am - 4 : 15 pm

Essential Duties

1. Assist customers with using the LibraryGreet customers in a friendly and professional mannerMeet customers' needs for information by answering basic research questions and locating appropriate library resources, providing referrals when necessaryRecommend materials based on customer preferences and knowledge of the collectionAssist customers in finding specific items on shelvesPerform customer service for library accounts, as well as checking materials in and outProvide help with library technology such as public computers, the Library catalog, and digital resources2.

Monitor and appropriately address behavior issues to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all customersMaintain a pleasant, inviting environment in the Library by creating displays and signage, etc.

Maintain orderly and attractive collections and withdraw items as appropriateAssist with training and monitoring the work of other Library employees and volunteersSubmit statistics and other reports of library services3.

Support the mission and strategic goals of the Library

Develop, promote, and implement events and programs under the guidance of manager and provide programming support for other Library employees

Implement system-wide programs such as annual summer reading programsPromote library programs, resources, and services to customersAssist with large-scale projects and eventsServe on system-wide committees as assigned or requiredAttend and participate in staff and departmental meetings, as well as training sessionsRecruit and coordinate the work of library volunteersPerform other related duties as needed or assigned

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education and Experience

Associate Degree, two years of college or university, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities

Demonstrate basic knowledge of library operations, services and materialsEffectively administer Brown County Library policies and proceduresAssess users' needs and provide consistently exceptional customer serviceComplete closing duties, including clearing and securing the buildingIdentify problems and take action to develop appropriate solutions, or refer to a supervisor when necessaryMake presentations to varying sized groups of youth and adultsEffectively coordinate and direct the work of othersMaintain a calm demeanor under stressful or unsettling circumstancesDemonstrate strong verbal and written communication skillsPerform accurate cash handling and create depositsRepresent the Library in a responsible, professional and trustworthy mannerEstablish and maintain cooperative and courteous working relationships with staff and the publicWork independently with minimal supervisionAppropriately multitask and prioritizeWork efficiently while paying close attention to detailFollow detailed verbal and written instructionsMeet the flexible scheduling needs of the LibraryAdapt to changes in the work environmentEffectively use general office equipment and software, including computer, printer, photocopier, telephone, cash drawer, audio-visual equipment, word processing, and emailDemonstrate proficient technology skills, including but not limited to working with the library specific software and databases, and efficient use of the Automated Materials Handling system

Insurance The Library participates in group insurance programs for health, dental, vision and life insurance offered by Brown County for regular employees who work 50% or more (at least 18.

Employee Leave Regular employees of the Brown County Library may be eligible for a variety of employee leave benefits, including : vacation, holidays, personal leave, casual leave, short-term and long-term disability leave, funeral leave, jury duty, and other leaves of absence.

RetirementBrown County and the Brown County Library participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) which helps provide for financial security during retirement.

Monthly annuity payments at retirement are calculated using years of creditable service, average earnings (based on three highest years of earnings), formula factors, age at retirement and selected annuity option or a money purchase option.

Eligibility is based on authorized hours per week.

Flexible Spending Account The Flexible Spending Account saves money by allowing the employee to pay for certain insurance premiums, medical related expenses, and dependent care expenses on a pre-tax basis.

All employees are eligible to participate.

Deferred Compensation Deferred Compensation allows employees to set aside pre-tax earnings toward retirement. All the earnings will accrue tax-free until such time as the assets are withdrawn, generally at retirement.
