Position Summary:
The Surgical Services Quality & Education Coordinator is responsible for promoting quality and evidence-based nursing practice in the clinical setting. He/she provides leadership and support to the Surgical Services personnel in the assessment of their educational needs, as well as, plans, implements and coordinates learning activities to meet the identified needs. He/she functions as a mentor and change agent by facilitating the integration of evidence-based and relevant knowledge into policies, performance improvement, and orientation processes. Leads and assures quality measures in Surgical Services; research, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Collects, monitors and reports data used to evaluate quality of care and performance of selected clinical indicators for all Surgical Services departments. Works closely with the Performance Improvement department in hospital-wide initiatives & collaboratives, and actively participates in committees and teams as directed. Functions as associate director as assigned during the absence of the Director of Surgical Operations and/or Divisional Director of Surgical Services. Working with patients, families, and other health care professionals, the Surgical Services Quality & Education Coordinator actively seeks to address issues at the individual person, organizational, and community level.
Qualifications:
A. Education:
Holds a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse. BSN required (or actively pursuing). Master’s preferred.
B. Training and Experience:
1. Current BLS certification required through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire
2. Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire required
3. Three years of full-time Nursing experience with a minimum two to three years of Operating Room experience
4. Prefer minimum of two to three-year leadership experience in a defined leadership role
5. ACLS preferred
6. EKG course required within 1 year of hire
7. TNCC preferred
8. CNOR preferred
9. Moderate sedation competency required within 3 months of hire
10. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer to department:
· Aseptic technique
· Gowning and gloving
· Surgical hand scrub
· Surgical skin prep
· Role of the circulator in surgical case preparation
· Role of the circulator in preoperative patient assessment
· Role of the circulator in intraoperative patient care
· Role of the circulator in postoperative patient care
· Unit Safety
· Leadership skills
