The Department of Pediatrics - Division of Emergency Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Responsible for providing the assessment and care coordination for pediatric emergency patients and families and for assuring high standards and efficient care across the care continuum, participating in quality improvement, education and research located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Children's Wisconsin.

Our emergency department and trauma center (EDTC) only treat kids and teens, offering a level of pediatric expertise and a reassuring, child-friendly environment you won't find at any other hospital in Southeastern Wisconsin. From simple cuts and broken bones to complicated, life-threatening injuries, we care for more injured kids than any other hospital in the state.

The team provides Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Care to approximately 70,000 patients annually visiting from Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

The Ideal Candidate will be passionate about Pediatric Emergency Medicine, flexible to change, and a team player wanting to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice. Areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to providing direct patient care to Pediatric and Teen patients in an emergency department setting.

In this role you will:

  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and test and appropriately communicate and document information.
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Initiate treatment plans independently or collaboratively based on acuity level
  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  • Acquire information on the most current developments and trends in the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant fields in pediatric emergency medicine through educational programs, in-services, professional associations and literature.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, research initiatives and/or clinical trials as directed by the pediatric emergency medicine leadership
  • Perform procedures including suturing, splinting, abscess drainage, child sexual abuse exams and administration of procedural sedation

Anticipated Schedule

Full time 1.0 FTE role with expectations for coverage for 24/7 days a week (nights, weekends, holidays) and flexibility required as needed. Consideration for 0.75 Part-Time role will be given for the right candidate. Generous additional pay provided*

Preference for 1 year of Pediatric or Emergency Medicine experience; willing to train for the right candidate.

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
