What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referral Coordinator position at Medig?
Medig is seeking to add to our clinic support team.
This is a full time (40 hour) position Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Position Summary: The Referral Coordinator/Medical Assistant, RCMA, is responsible for coordinating specialty care and diagnostic referrals for patients as requested by the medical providers. The RCMA acts as a liaison between the patient and provider to ensure that optimal medical care is provided. The RCMA will represent Medig in a positive manner that demonstrates our company’s core value and mission statement. The RCMA works under the primary supervision of the RCMA Operations Manager and general supervision of the medical providers.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Demonstrates exceptional patient relations skills on the phone and in-person, e.g. smiles, cheerfully greets patients, engages all patients in a genuine, warm and caring manner. The “Medig Heart” should always be felt upon each interaction.
2. Ensures that referrals are addressed in a timely manner.
3. Processes patient referrals to specialty providers and diagnostic facilities by assembling appropriate clinical information and billing information to specialist or facility.
4. Contacts health insurance companies via telephone or online. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis and necessary medical information in effort to obtain pre-authorizations for referrals. Advise physician if authorization request is denied.
5. Reviews details and expectations about the referral with patients. Acts as an advocate for the patient to troubleshoot any scheduling issues that may occur with the referral facility.
6. Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals by inputting all information into the electronic medical chart via the Medig Software.
7. Patient/Provider Liaison: Communicates information to the patient as per the provider’s instruction.
8. Gathers Medical History to assist with continuity of medical care.
9. Transmits prescription refills as per the medical provider.
10. Updates patient’s electronic medical chart with EMR scan uploads; medical diary entries and/or addendums.
11. Maintains regular consistent attendance, personal appearance, punctuality, and adherence to applicable health and safety procedures
12. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Pay is $16.00-$18.00 range based on experience.
